Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Gloria. Turschwell - Posted on 20 November 2022

All the Doctors are very caring and understanding. They send you for blood tests and scans if they think it is necessary and find them very thorough . Also I find the receptionists very helpful.

I was sent a text from the surgery to make an appointment. After ringing at the correct times for a week I decided to into the surgery. The person in front of me was also complaining about not being able to get an appointment. I was told they known its busy keep trying. I was promised a call from the management two weeks ago, yes still waiting. Sort yourselves out.

Dear patient I am sorry to hear that you have not been able to get an appointment when you rang at the correct time and that you feel we are badly organised. This is such a pity to hear especially as we are working hard to improve and achieve the highest standards of care and patient satisfaction. These last 2 weeks the demand has increased even higher with Respiratory illnesses, Covid and children's scarlet fever. I am also sorry you were promised a call from myself. I do apologise if I have missed this request. Please do contact me on fairbrook.medicalcentre@nhs.net and I can discuss this further with you. I don't have a magic wand and can't open up appointments but can listen and learn from examples and see what we can learn from our patients experiences. I look forward to hearing from you in person via the email so I can help you further. Michele Cain Practice Manager - operations

  3. Review titled Caring Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue Heimann - Posted on 19 November 2022

My personal experience of Fairbrook Medical Centre has always been really positive. The reception staff always friendly and I can have a giggle with them even when they are busy. They try their hardest to help with appointments if and when needed especially now as our family are going through very tough health issues. Nurses always willing to listen when needed. Thank you Fairbrook you are all stars.

Dear Sue Thank you so much for your positive feedback. I will pass this onto our reception/Care Coordinator front line staff. They are extremely busy, helping alot of patients each day, signposting them to the correct clinicians and helping with enquiries. You are right it is a very tough role which often gets alot of abuse, so to hear your glowing review will mean alot to them. Demand verses capacity is growing and growing. Last week we topped 620 calls into the surgery in a day (the norm used to be 300). If they could they would give an appointment to everyone but we just don't have the capacity for all the calls we have to put directly into a GP. They are fully trained in signposting patients into other clinicians such booking directly into the pharmacy, mental health workers, muscular skeletal specialist physios, social prescribers, advance nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacist, nurses, healthcare assistants, phlebotomists and our paramedic. As you can see the surgery has changed alot with all these new roles. I will also pass this onto our nurses- we are very lucky to have such an amazing nursing team. Thank you again for your time and feedback- it is much appreciated. Michele Cain Practice Manager - operations.

Dear Patient Thank you for posting this review. Wonderful to hear that a member of staff persisted over 8 times to make sure they could finish explaining and help with your request. I looked into this and can tell you it was Jaffer Rashid our amazing prescribing clinical pharmacist who kept ringing you back. He was so happy to receive this feedback and great to show the whole team how we can continue to help and continue to try with our patients. I do hope your phone is behaving better now. Thank you for your time in letting us know about your good experience. Michele Cain Practice Manager.

  5. Review titled Find a different practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

A while back my husband and I tried to have fertility treatment we were fobbed off and ended up having to go private. £14000 later (for treatment I was young enough to get in the NHS) and I have a lovely baby boy. I tried a few times to register my child and get a six week appointment only to be told that they don’t pre book appointments and I had to try at 10:30 or 2pm to get appointments when they were released. This I tried on four separate occasions with no joy! I then called up for an appointment just for me as I had a c section and the scar developed a sore was told to take a picture and put it on some link which I did. I was called I missed the call because I was feeding my son I was called a minute after that which again because I was feeding my son I missed, they took me off the list and I was told I would have to call back and re book. I was worried about having a sore on the c section scar and would have liked to have it dealt with before it gets infected. I’m now thinking I will have to see if I can get a private GP appointment for this. They seem to not be thinking about the fact that new mothers are suffering with their mental health.

We are sorry to hear about your experiences with NHS fertility treatment and since the birth of your baby. Demand verses capacity is high but if you feel you have an infected scar and we are shut or full, please ring 111. Going privately does not have to be the only option. 111 will be able to triage you and either see you locally or deal with over the phone. We are sorry that you missed our call, especially as you were feeding. The clinicians protocol is to ring twice 30 minutes apart. As your complaint is anonymous we can't answer specifically but we would like to look into this further to check that we did all we could at the time. Please email the practice manager on fairbrook.medicalcentre@nhs.net so we can help further. We will be able to contact the health visitors for you and also give information to help with your mental health. I have put some information on here incase you don't contact the practice manager. 6. Review titled Fantastic practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sam - Posted on 09 October 2022

My experience with Fairbrook continues to be brilliant. The staff are always warm, helpful and conscientious. The reception team in particular are to be commended for their unwavering professionalism and kindness. The GPs and nurses are very knowledgeable and supportive; I have always felt listened to and been very satisfied with how my health concerns have been addressed. Their phlebotomist is also excellent and has a magic touch (blood draws never hurt or feel uncomfortable). My experience with Fairbrook’s pharmacist has also been great; they are outstanding, very helpful and deeply knowledgeable. To conclude, I think Fairbrook is an absolutely fantastic practice; I can’t say enough good things about them as I’ve had an excellent experience and felt very looked after, with my health needs met.

Wow, what a wonderful review to receive. We are so grateful for your time in writing this. It really helps the whole team when we received this. We know we don't always get it right and demand verses the capacity we are able to house and get means that not everyone can get to see us, in the time frame they would like. To hear that our new and expanded clinical pharmacy team is working and our receptionist are helpful and conscientious means alot. We are continuing to train and work together on empathy and signpost into the correct clinical areas. Thank you Sam again.

  9. Review titled Have to call

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Amy - Posted on 05 July 2022

I got to the doctors first thing, first person in for an emergency appointment , I was told I had to wait outside and call them! It’s ridiculous, I was then number 32 on call and I’m still waiting, they actually told me to stand outside and wait untill someone on the phone could speak to me. Awful

Hi Amy I am sorry you think this is awful. We have had our doors open for F2F appointments and triage phone appointments, throughout Covid but have been asking patients not to walk in without an appointment. This is to keep our other immunosuppressed patients who have appointments, our staff and yourself, as safe as possible. We have more lines into the surgery and normally more staff answering. Covid cases are up again this month and I am sorry to say that this week we have staff members down with Covid. My receptionists are answering as quickly as they can but I am sorry you were number 32. I do hope this makes more sense. Please continue to ring us is you need to see us urgently by ringing 8.30 or 2.0pm or if routine then book online or ring both at 10.30am. Do email the practice manager on fairbrook.medicalcentre@nhs.net if you would like to discuss further.

  10. Review titled Very Considerate Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 July 2022

I live in Clapham but my family in Borehamwood. My elderly mum who is 87 is slowing dying of Chronic Kidney Disease and other ailments as well as vascular dementia. I generally speak to the Practice on her behalf. I have Power of Attorney. They have shown such kindness and patience to her. Fairbrook is very, very oversubscribed but I have always found them to be so caring. I know it is hard for the Practice as too many housing complexes have been built without infrastucture to supply more schools, roads or GPs. I have found the Fairbrook team to be polite under so much stress. I wish there was some relief in the area for them. Sadly this is not the case. They do a brilliant job and although at times it might be frustating to get through,or get an appointment if not urgent. I have no complaints. To put up with all they have on their plate they are angels. It is not their fault there are too many patients. If it is deemed an urgent request, life threatening they have been there to assist. ie: My mother due to dementia overdosed on her tablets as she forgot - well helped herself! Tablets now hidden!! It is not an easy balance. I would never berate them for the care they are able to give under such pressure. I am thankful they are there to listen. Above all, it is not their fault. There should be more GPS in an ever-expanding area of people. It used to be a village, soon it will be a mini city. Just too many people in the area. Thank you Fairbrook. You have been brilliant to my mum and family.

Thank you for your review. It is very knowledgeable about the pressures in the NHS. I am sorry that you are having to use the service more and more for your mum and for what you are all going through. We have expanded our team with various other clinicians but still have an advert our for more GP time. Carers in Herts are also a great organisation to help with your situation and we can also refer to our wonderful social prescribing team who can ring to see if they can offer more help and advice (non medical) to see if day to day life for your mum can be organised. I really thank you for your time and review.
