After breaking a tooth and exposing the nerves just before Christmas I was told by nhs111 that I should see a dentist immediately for emergency treatment. They informed me that Cleobury Dental was my closest nhs emergency provider. Upon calling them and explaining my emergency I was relieved to hear they had 2 nhs appointments that same day. However, when I told them I was not one of their patients that all changed. Even though I live 200 yards from the surgery. I have been unable to get an nhs dentist since mine retired. The receptionist then told me they weren’t accepting any nhs patients and that I could not have either of the two vacant slots. I explained that I understood and wasn’t asking to become an nhs patient but just some emergency care as they are listed as an nhs emergency provider. As I was instructed by nhs111. I was told that I could not be seen even though they are listed as providing emergency nhs dental care. I could however have one of these slots if I were to pay as a private patient. I asked to discuss this with their practice manager but they were unavailable and there was nobody in authority there other than the receptionist to deal with my concerns. This is disgraceful, two empty slots yet they wouldn’t see an emergency case after being told by nhs111 they should see me. One of the appointments was within an hour of my call, I would be surprised if this slot was filled at such short notice by a private patient. If you look at their website they kindly list their private charges alongside the nhs charges. Oh my goodness, what a difference is all I can say. They did not care one bit that I was in agony and that it was one day before Christmas Eve. They had availability yet would not see an nhs emergency. Should they be allowed to continue on an nhs contract? I don’t think so.
