  4. Review titled My experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

Went in for an Emergency appointment. Got seen by my dentist who said no infection in tooth or gums. Tooth may have a fracture?? How this could be known by looking as no X-ray taken. My tooth was hurting badly so it was filed down and I was sent away to return in 2 weeks. Well needless to say by that evening my face gum and tooth were all excruciatingly painful. So I call dentist again luckily a cancellation came in so I went in and suffered the most horrendous injections I have ever experienced just to remove the tooth. The tooth was indeed fractured and infected. Was told it’s ok now. Go home. I drove to my appointment and how I drove home sitting in traffic I will never know. I’m a grown up woman and have never ever sat and rocked and screamed in pain ever. No pain meds worked. So here we are next day after extraction the dentist called to see how I was… it took all my time to talk as by this stage my whole jawline and gum looked like a massive gob stopper. Pain off the charts. They said oh!! Please come back down asap. Again I went and the dentist said of you have a severe infection… not wanting to be sarcastic but it looked awful. However I was provided a prescription for antibiotics and pain medication. After 5 different trips to chemists I have given up as the medication prescribed is not available. So after nearly 5 days I’m ready to jump of the roof with pain. Haven’t slept or eaten since Monday. I called dentist again today who have said they will write out another prescription for me to pick up. I’m feeling so I’ll and weak I’m unable to go and collect it. This I believe may have been sorted had the dentist prescribe antibiotics after my extraction as the tooth was infected. I have been with this dentist for many many years. But this whole experience has left me terrified to visit in the future. Let’s see how I get on in the future.

We are sorry to learn about the experience you recently encountered. Please be reassured that we have a team of highly skilled dentists, and the dentist you saw has experience in working under consultants in Oral Surgery. Regarding tooth fractures, detecting these fractures can often be challenging, as they are not always visible on radiographs. Our team relies on specialised instruments during your examination to diagnose such issues accurately. Our approach is rooted in evidence-based dentistry, and we only recommend radiographs when clinically necessary. During your initial appointment, there was insufficient evidence to support the need for an X-ray. However, we were able to identify that there was a high spot that was impacting your bite, which could have been contributing to your discomfort. We understand your frustration, especially given the level of pain you've been experiencing. Please know that our priority is to explore the least invasive treatment options first. I'm relieved that we managed to arrange a cancellation appointment for you. Our team genuinely cares about your well-being and aims to alleviate your pain as promptly as possible. While dental injections are seldom pleasant, we apologise for any discomfort you encountered during the process. Our dentists strive to be as gentle as possible, but some tenderness can be expected. Regarding extractions, it's important to note that they are not without their challenges. It's common to experience soreness and discomfort afterward. However, with the guidance and gauze we provide for home care, these issues typically subside within a day or two. Antibiotics might be prescribed after an extraction, but they're often unnecessary, as your mouth has a natural ability to clean itself. Unnecessary antibiotics can disrupt the healing process by affecting beneficial bacteria along with harmful ones. We regret the issues you faced with obtaining the prescribed medication. Our intention was to provide the most effective treatment for your infection however it's encouraging that we were able to issue another prescription. If your pain persists, seeking medical assistance is crucial. If needed, consider seeking help from a friend or family member to pick up your prescription. Your well-being remains our utmost concern. We deeply regret the distress you've experienced, and I want to assure you that you’re best interests have been at the forefront of every decision we've made and our commitment to following clinical guidance has been unwavering. We hope that despite this challenging experience, you'll continue to entrust us with your regular dental examinations in the future. Your comfort and health remain our priority, and we're here to support you on your journey to relief and recovery. We would be more than happy to have a meeting with you with one of our experienced clinicians and practice manager to discuss this further, if you would like. Please contact reception at any time to arrange this.

A pleasant surprise that an ancient tooth filling could be repaired instead of the extraction Iwas expecting.

  10. Review titled First class dentists

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Ian N - Posted on 04 August 2023

I have been attending this practice for 40 years and I have nothing but praise for the service it provides. All the dentists are utterly professional and technically brilliant but combine this with a friendliness and warmth that puts patients at ease. In addition all the other staff ( eg dental nurses , reception staff ) always welcome patients with a smile and do anything within their power to help . I am a person who has a real dread of going to the dentists and if they can make me feel comfortable and allay my fears then anyone and everyone should have no problem in using this practice - they really are a first class outfit and one I can totally recommend
