I accompanied my daughter to an appointment for support with her mental health. I felt that she wasn't given enough opportunity to explain her thoughts and feelings in more depth. The questioning was very direct and mainly closed questions. Sometimes there was wrong assumptions made but we were quickly moved on to the next question. She was offered some practical advice for moving forward, which sounds great in theory and I am going to encourage her to try out the suggestions. However, I have already tried the same strategies with her previously but they always fail. Hence the reason for trying to get professional support. I understand she has to make changes herself if she wants to improve her current situation but I felt that more initial listening, empathy and smaller steps should have been offered.

  2. Review titled The worst practice

Since couple of years I am engaged with the small heath mental health team. I suffer from war related PTSD and from the very beginning they have been extremely unprofessional and at times just blunt and rude. It's mostly the assistants and the receptionist staff who talks to people as if they are doing charity or doing people a favour. They also have the attitude of know all and there way or high way. Making an appoint, from calling and talking to them to getting anything sorted is a challenge in itself. They don't car if a person has anxiety or difficulty in talking or answering their questions. Their communication is abrupt, unprofessional and they give you the feeling that that are getting rid of you as quickly as possible without any meaningful help. In the therapy from day 1, they bombarded me with questions over my past and not caring about my trauma and PTSD. They force me to recall every detail of my past that caused me trauma and after every session I was even more in a dip and needed days to recover. No wonder I couldn't carry on the integration sessions which were supposed to be therapy??? I haven't seen or felt a single hint of compassion or understanding. Due to the fact that I stopped the sessions being too long and heavy for me now they don't provide further help with anything and say that I can go somewhere else? Even in some 3rd world countries there is more help and support for war related trauma than these people who are just there to have a job and earn money but completely disconnected from the profession.
