Having suffered a close family bereavement and then a life changing disease I needed help. Losing my independence, mobility and confidence compounded my need. I was looking forward to receiving counselling, having never had it before I didn’t know what to expect but knew I needed it. The lady I first spoke to was so lovely, she described how I was entitled to 17 sessions and we embarked on our journey. After 5 sessions I felt her style and my need were not suited; she would reaffirm how bad things were for me too often and I found it very difficult. I was distraught after our 5 session and was very polite and honest about how I felt. She was lovely and said she would set about ensuring I was put in touch with someone else. I missed the call from my new counsellor as I had broken my wrist and was having a very tough time personal care wise. My husband was helping me and so I missed the call by 12 minutes. I pleaded with the new person to fit me just for half an hour to begin the journey. She refused despite there being 30 mins plus left of my slot. I emailed the office today to explain and ask to be put in touch with another counsellor. I felt genuinely let down by the previous one who made me feel just so desperate and so very sad. The messages sent via WhatsApp were devoid of any consideration to a person in need. I received this email back from Lea Vale Talking Therapies today: Dear xxxxx Thank you for your email. We’re sorry to hear that you missed your appointment yesterday. Unfortunately, when you are more than 10 minutes late to an appointment, this is recorded as a DNA (did not attend) appointment, which also count towards your total number of counselling sessions. You previously had 5 sessions with our counsellor, xxxxx and now have a DNA appointment, which brings your total to 6 sessions. We offer short term counselling, which is for 8 sessions. We have spoken to our clinical lead and she has confirmed that as you only have 2 sessions remaining, we would be unable to allocate you to a new counsellor, which means that you will now be discharged back to the care of your GP and you can ask for a new referral if you would still like to access counselling. Kind regards Lea Vale Talking Therapies I am not quite sure I have the energy to start again. I feel lucky that in my life I have not needed to rely on services such as Lea Vale before, it disgusts me that people in such vulnerable places are treated with such disdain and so clinically. I have pleaded with Lea Vale to put me in touch with someone, anyone. I fear my request will fall upon deaf, uncaring, inconsiderate ears. I have a support network, people who, right now, are disgusted with the service offered by Lea Vale. My heart goes out to those poor people in need of this support who are at the mercy of these people and have no alternative support, the potential consequences of which are frightening.
