  2. Review titled Made to feel I was wasting their time

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Dee Lomas - Posted on 20 May 2025

Following a fall I phoned 111 who said they would send an ambulance and I may get a call in the meantime to check this was really needed I did get a call and the practitioner said yes I needed an ambulance to transport me to hospital. The ambulance arrived quickly, the control room had suggested it wouldn’t be long as they were ahead of schedule. The paramedic immediately insisted I walk on my injured leg.i was unable to do this and was in severe pain. She then said an ambulance should not have been sent and if they helped me get into the back of my car my partner should take me to Darlington memorial as probably needed an xray, I was seen in urgent care and was told I should have been transported to hospital by ambulance as I had ruptured ligaments in my knee and broken my kneecap in half so I was actually physically unable to walk. I had surgery and spent 10 days in hospital, I am now 10 weeks post op and only able to partially weight bear and undertaking intensive physio. Urgent care advised that it was obvious my knee cap was broken so I was unable to bend straighten or lift my leg. The journey to hospital in my car was excruciatingly painful. It just made me wonder why the crew were ahead of schedule and a little concerned not sufficient attention was being given to the actual symptoms shown by the patient. I was in excruciating pain with an injury that did warrant transport by ambulance. I have never previously asked for emergency services and my experience would definitely make me think twice before doing it again.
