  1. Review titled Gave up waiting for a GP call back after 7.5

Rated 1 star out of 5

Rang with UTI being 65 can’t go to Chemist for treatment because NHS won’t allow it after 65. 111 operator said I would receive a call back from a GP within 2 hours. There was no call back from a GP or indeed anyone within 2 hours or 3, 4, 5, 6 and after 7.5 hours I gave up. Still needing an antibiotic as Drs are closed till Tuesday. When I told the place I’d been put through to after I called twice after the time for them to call me had long since passed they said 11 do ‘t realise the pressure we are under. So what is the point of 111 giving out ridiculous timelines that are not manageable. On one call I was told there are people on end of life care which go to the front of the queue which made me feel awful for trying to get help, of course they must be seen first! There were at one time of called over 130 people waiting for call backs and that they are a 24 hour service. So expect a call in the middle of the night? When I cannot guarantee I will get to the phone in time to answer it. Much more needs to be done to support the centres which are tasked by 111 to to ensure nobody is left walking away from the service still needing treatment. It’s as if the NHS has become so frustrated with patients that the patient is expected to put up with being spoken to as if you should just wait and wait and wait with. O resolution or treatment. I will have to wait for Tuesday and speak to my own GP and hope this infection does not get worse.

  2. Review titled Great

Called as we needed advice for mum as she has been unwell. Call handler was brilliant. He explained that some questions would seem irrelevant or repetitive but asked us to bare with him. He was reassuring and patient and requested first responders to come and see mum. All was efficient and reassuring, lovely man

  4. Review titled Frustrating servive

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I contacted 111 over the bank holiday, this was at 10.33 am on Sunday 26th. I went through the assessment process and was told I would be contacted within 4 hours. To my delight I was telephoned by a Doctor one hour later. I explained my problem and sent pictures and was contacted almost immediately with advice. I was told to go to MIU at Liskeard and they would be able to clean my wound and prescribe antibiotics for the infection which had set in. I attended the MIU and after a 2 hour wait was seen by the triage nurse who informed me that she couldn’t do anything , that I would have to see a doctor which was not an available option at the MIU! I went back home and contacted 111 again to explain my problem. However hard I tried to say that I had already been assessed and advised by a doctor to go to MIU which hadn’t resolved my issue, I had to go through the same assessment process again which was very frustrating. I was then told that I would be contacted in the next 8 hours. This didn’t happen, I was contacted 11.5 hours later at 01.30 am on the Monday morning by another doctor who told me to go to Liskeard hospital in the morning and that there would be some antibiotics waiting for me. Much to my relief, the antibiotics were there for me when I arrived. My concerns are that the first doctor I spoke to was under the impression that a nurse led MIU could prescribe antibiotics which they clearly couldn’t, that the operators who take the first call to 111 cannot deviate from having to reassess when clearly I had been assessed already and misinformed about the course of action to take, that I had an infected open wound that required antibiotic treatment and had to wait 24 hours to start treatment and the fact that the 111 operators and doctors plus myself wasted so much time achieving the correct outcome.
