I had been caring for my mom at home, sadly after a stroke and because she had dementia we could no longer care for her, I had heard good reports about the grange and so she became a resident there October 2023,she seamed well cared for overall. However in January whist visiting her she was scratching herself and in a lot of discomfort,I looked at her upper arms and back and she had a really nasty rash,I went straight to one of the staff to ask about it and was told , there’s a few of them got it, the doctor has prescribed a cream but there’s a national shortage so we’re using something else! I went the week after she still had the rash!, unfortunately my mom had another fall and was taken into hospital where after a few days it was confirmed she had scabies , I immediately called the home to inform them as I know it’s very contagious. We went to collect my mother’s belongings a few days later and noticed no extra precautions in place. Sadly my mom is still in hospital and end of life ,she should be at peace in her last days but sadly we have to watch her suffer in agony as the scabies has effected most of her frail tiny body. The hospital have treated the condition and really have done their best but have said they have never seen anything so bad. I just feel this should have been addressed far sooner, my mom was in isolation at the hospital and we had to wear protection ,where as in the care home no protection or procedures seemed to be in place for visitors other residents and staff
