Mum moved here in March 2024 for a short respite period after breaking her hip. She was welcomed to Tamarix to a glass of whisky and water and offered her favourite Heinz soup. Sadly, mum quickly became poorly and passed away after only staying here for a matter of weeks. What can we say about the care she received. It was exceptional. The manager was happy for her to remain at the home throughout her end of life journey and the team leaders were incredible making sure she got the care she needed from the care staff. All the staff were knowledgeable and caring and treated mum with the utmost dignity and respect. Mum was always comfortable with her call bell within reach if she needed anything. Every time we visited, she was comfortable in a clean bed, fresh clothing and watching her favourite TV programme. They really went above and beyond to make the effort to get to know her. This meant she could chat about her life to staff when being assisted with care or when staff were cleaning her room. It was lovely to hear these interactions as she got to know the staff who were caring for her and was always at ease. Sadly, mum wasn’t able to get out of bed. However, we saw every day different things going on when we visited including, games, arts and crafts and quizzes. People seemed to be engaged and happy in the company of the staff team. We even saw the managers come in on their days off to take some of the residents out to watch the football. The food always looked lovely and on Good Friday people were enjoying fish and chips from the local chip shop. As family members we don’t live locally and both work within the social care sector. Being so far away was the hardest thing ever. We were so worried about mum moving into a care home as we know the pressures they can be under. We were all too aware of the horror stories you hear about and about the lack of staffing. We can honestly say the staff team and managers put us totally at ease and we were 100% confident she was safe and receiving the best care at Tamarix. They always kept us informed about how mum was doing. When mum became poorly, we came up to stay near the home and they were just fantastic and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They even allowed us to bring our little dogs in whenever we visited which mum loved. The full team should be extremely proud of the work they do and everyone was so friendly and helpful. The staff at Tamarix are a bunch of fabulous hard working, dedicated and caring people. They listened, they cared, they were always responsive and nothing was missed or too much trouble. It was lovely for mum’s experience of social care to be in a care home which really demonstrated compassion with great leadership and team work. From the bottom of our hearts ‘Thankyou’ for everything you did and do and after only knowing my mum for a small number of weeks to pay your respects at the funeral has just topped everything off.
