My 94 year old husband was brought into A&E by ambulance after a fall on Thursday evening,23rd Feb. We spent the night in a cubicle, and were impressed by the kindness and thoroughness of all the members of staff who attended to us.

My son who has Spina Bifida spent the whole night in his wheelchair despite me telling them that the skin on his backside would breakdown and he should be in a bed ,after a long wait he was eventually given a side room and bed on A&E his backside had become very sore ,I saw that his feet had been placed on top of each other and on the wound, the nurse said to me ,his mother, he can move his legs you know I was gobsmacked he has never walked and cannot move his legs ,this hospital is a disgrace the hospital is in trouble by bad spending and clearly uncaring unthinking nurses

  3. Review titled So abrupt and unhelpful

Rated 1 star out of 5

Took my elderly disabled mother today to a routine cardio exam. We were on time (in fact early) polite and obliging. What a pity this was not reciprocated. With the singular exception of the delightful medical technician who carried out the tests, we were met with contradictory signage, and misdirection. When we asked for help and clarification we were snapped at, told off, misdirected yet again and treated generally with arrogance and impatience. I had to push my mother in a wheelchair in repeated different directions across just one department (area c). We met a distressed lady in the lift who was tearful, desperately in search of a toilet and distraught because of the rudeness of staff. She clearly needed comfort and assistance. The lift was labelled “out of order” when it was not, and staff we met throughout the hospital were short-tempered snd patronising. Even the volunteers at their desk gave us wrong information. We couldn’t wait to escape and thanked our lucky stars that we weren’t dependant upon these unpleasant people for urgent medical help. In my professional (high-powered and very stressful) career in public service I would never have dreamed of treating anyone as we were treated today. What a horrible experience.

  4. Review titled Complete disgrace

Rated 1 star out of 5

Grandad of 84 years old was admitted with suspected DVT, had to stay overnight as couldn’t scan him until the next day, ended up staying a whole week with hardly any communication and only 1 scan which was “inconclusive” he was discharged this evening with no conclusion or advice When my dad went to pick him up he was left 6.5 hours waiting for discharge to be then told grandad had to stay another night! When asked why no one could tell him why, my dad challenged why he should stay if no one could explain why, and after waiting 6.5 hours to be discharged! No one could answer so they simply discharged him and referred him back to his GP! An 84 year old man! What a disgrace, lack of communication between doctors and nurses and family, complete lack of care for patients and to palm him off to his GP when it’s hard enough to get a GP appointment as it is?! Shame on you!

  5. Review titled Good experience in troubled times

Rated 4 stars out of 5

My GP sent me to sped. The department was very busy however I was treated with kindness by all staff. I was in the department for just over 5 hours but during this time had blood tests, blood pressure tests, x-ray and two doctor consultations. During these very worrying, busy times, all staff were doing their very best and were showing care and kindness. I very much appreciated their care. Thank you.

  7. Review titled Efficient caring service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Following my wife's psychotic episode we had no option but to visit A&E late on a Sunday evening. My wife was assessed immediately by calm understanding staff at both junior and senior levels. This was a distressing time for both my wife and myself which the staff more than recognised. I just wish I had had the opportunity to thank the staff properly that evening of 6 November. Hopefully this review goes some way to doing that. My wife is now receiving specialist care at Berrywood Hospital and again I have been so impressed by the mental health provision received to date both by on the ground staff and support teams on the telephone. Thank you.

  8. Review titled Bad Service

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Arrived at the Reception(Eye Dept) I was sent to a Department where a nurse look at my papers and ask me to take a seat where I waited over 45mins, when the nurse returned and looked again at my papers, and took me back to reception who then told me I had been sent to the wrong dept ,Having then being take to the correct dept I was informed that I was approx one hour late for my treatment, and I had to wait for over a further hour ,finely I was seen to, A visit which sould have taken approx one hour took over four hours, plus my son who took me to the hospital was left waiting having lost a days wages plus had travelled over 30 miles from home, I feel that hospital staff should be paid a good wage but in return they should pay more attention to there job . It appered that the reception staff didnot know that the eye department had been changed.

  9. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

In high pressure times when it’s so easy for people to complain, I wanted to share how positive our experience had been today. My daughter hurt her finger at school and the first aid team at school were concerned that it may have been dislocated. From the nurse in paediatric A&E to the nurses in the injury unit to the radiographer in xray, everybody made her feel at ease, were efficient, friendly and professional. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job in sometimes very difficult circumstances.

  10. Review titled Great experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Took my 90 year old mum for a chest Xray today. Cheerful and friendly lady on reception to greet us. Questions clear and precise. Directed to waiting area. Lovely and clean. After 2 minutes called in by the welcoming radiologist. Mum treated with respect, kindness and compassion. Thank you so much, You are a credit to the profession, working under what, I am sure, are often very challenging circumstances. Where would we be without the magnificent NHS.
