    I am finding it impossible to get to contact Basildon Dermatology. I have tried numerous times at different times/days (more that 20 times) but the phone is *never* picked up. Leaving a message is totally useless because no-one ever responds to that either. This is not just recent this has been the case for years and never improves. It is not just me! I have been looking at the reviews for this department on line and a very high percentage of these are complaining about this precise issue! My particular issue is that I urgently need a repeat prescription for medication that can only be prescribed by the hospital. As the pharmacy refused to give me enough to cover me until my next appointment (Several months in the future!) I am at a loss as to how to request this. There are no published email addresses so I suppose the only alternatives are to use snail mail or actually go in person to the derm department. This is an appalling lack of proper management of the dept and represents a blatant disregard to the needs of its patients.

    Doctor called back almost immediately after a triage nurse call. Within 20 minutes I was sitting in her surgery. After questions and tests she arranged a prescription for collection near my home. Within 50 minutes, I’d driven to Basildon Hospital, had a doctors face to face check-up, and picked up the medication I needed. The service was extremely efficient from the start. All the people involved were kind and caring …. and, all ‘out of hours’ on a Sunday evening. Five stars for sure. Thank you to all.

    Referral was rejected on account of a 'psychiatric' label. Can patients with mental health issues not also have physical health issues? This service seems to follow this concept - ignorant, biased, discriminatory. Not what you expect within the health service, it wouldn't be allowed elsewhere. Lots of people will be left to struggle with this blatant discrimination being allowed to occur. Absolutely appalled by this situation, reject a referral, no proper explanation, not even general management advice as to what may help. Absolutely nothing - you have a psychiatric label so no help for you. It's a disgusting attitude from a health service
