  1. Review titled Seen quickly

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Phoned surgery at 9:30am and spoke to a receptionist. A duty doctor phoned back within half an hour and I was seen by my own doctor by mid day. Exceptional service, especially as they were short of two staff that day.

  2. Review titled Amazing Matron

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Today I was seen by a Matron who was amazing! I’ve never felt so heard, I was listened to with empathy, then followed up with immediate tests and meds. So thorough with such a kind nature, I wish I could see the same Matron every time. Thank you St James!!

  3. Review titled Provided with appointment on the day of phoning

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by A Wood - Posted on 05 February 2024

Requested an appointment on a Monday due to problems lasting over 5 weeks, seen on the same day. Excellent care Provided by GP with a return in four days if you do not improve. Unfortunately I had to return seen the same GP and onwards referrals made. This practice has always been there for our family when we need them, the staff and clinical staff always provide the same exemplary care and concern for us as their patients.

  4. Review titled Best Practice In The Area

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mike leppard - Posted on 20 November 2023

The staff , as all medical staff and receptions are extremely busy but they are excellent in all respects. From the initial call to treatment through to ordering prescriptions they are polite, professional and accommodating. Over the years I have been with a number of surgeries due to the vagaries of my employment but St James surgery are undoubtedly the best.

Have always been treated with respect and apart from some difficulties in 'getting through on the telephone' have received the treatment required, when required

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Immediate response to any questions I had, and with a smile. Felt like they genuinely cared. As an old person I felt I had at last found a surgery that I had confidence in.

  9. Review titled Difficult for no reason.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Not really a welcoming surgery, no one’s really explained to me the protocol on how they work, couple times now I’ve been on the phone and the receptionists have been nothing but rude to me, first time when I registered and they got my appointment dates wrong, & then I’ve also came in today because I lost my sample bottles and requested some more, but was refused as I didn’t have my blood forms, with me (they were at home) they still refused they wanted me to bring them in, show them I had the forms then I would of been given the sample pots, even though these forms are my notes and could of easily been printed off, and these samples have been requested by a nurse. I work at a different surgery so I know how things work and how easy it is to do things for the patients just seems to me they’re difficult for no reason.

Thank you for taking the time to add a review for St James Surgery. All new patients to the surgery are given a surgery leaflet which explains how the surgery works and a new patient medical is booked with one of our Healthcare Assistants'. Our reception team are all experienced and we receive many comments about how helpful and friendly they are, so we are sorry your experience was not the same. You mention in your review that you work for a GP surgery, what you may not be aware of is that St James do not run blood clinics at the surgery, our patients are bled at the blood clinic situated at Clacton hospital. For this reason patients do not require blood bottles to go with their blood test forms, the staff at the blood clinic maintain the supply of bottles for all types of blood test requests. I am sorry if it was not made clear to you by the receptionist that you spoke with that this is why they were unable to supply you with bottles but that this would in no way impede you having your tests taken, which are by appointment only. If you require assistance in booking an appointment at the blood clinic please do contact the surgery and we will be able to help you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. The surgery is not commissioned to provide treatment for minor injuries as this is provided at Clacton Hospital, Minor Injuries Unit (MIU). I do apologise if this was not explained fully to you when you telephoned the surgery but the information advising you to attend the MIU was correct.
