To get full access to the NHS App, you will need to prove who you are.

You'll be asked to prove who you are when you use the NHS App.

You can use photo ID or your registration details for your GP surgery's online services.

What you can do with full access

With full access to the app, you can view your health information and manage your healthcare online. For example, you can:

  • request repeat prescriptions
  • book or cancel GP surgery appointments
  • find out appointment dates and times
  • see test results

If you've not proved who you are, you can only:

  • use NHS 111 online and the NHS website
  • find NHS services near you

How to tell your level of access

If you have only part access to the NHS App, you'll see a notice on the home screen after you log in asking you to prove who you are to get full access.

If you do not see this message, you already have full access.

Other reasons you may not be able to use some app features

Even if you've proved who you are, you may not be able to use all the app's features.

  • Your GP surgery can choose to switch off a service, such as booking an appointment, or hide sensitive information.
  • The information you can see in the app depends on your GP surgery and the system they use. For example, you may not be able to see information about your health conditions or vaccinations.
  • If you've recently changed GP surgery, the information in the app from your previous surgery may not automatically transfer over.
  • Information about hospital care may not be available through the NHS App.
