Bodmin Community Hospital

Inpatient Mental Health Services at Bodmin Hospital

Most people with mental health problems are support ed at home, but some will need extra care and treatment that can only be provided in hospital. We have range of units/wards for them.

Treatment at home

The Home Treatment Team is for people over 16 years old, who are experiencing acute mental health difficulties. We provide intensive support and treatment in their home environment, as a safe alternative to hospital admission.

Treatment in hospital - When a person’s care cannot be safely managed at home,Bodmin Hospital provides a safe environment for the assessment & treatment of people over the age of 16 with a mental health condition.

All our acute units have single rooms with en-suite bathrooms, access to communal gardens & lounge areas. Therapeutic treatment and activities support and encourage recovery.

Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) - Harvest Similar to an intensive treatment unit in a general hospital, Harvest provides concentrated treatment to those who are most unwell. We support anyone over 16, who, because they are very unwell need a high level of nursing input. This level of care cannot be provided on a ‘acute’ psychiatric unit. All patients on this unit receive treatment under the Mental Health Act.

Rehabilitation - Bowman Unit & Fettle House Bowman is a low secure unit that focuses on the rehabilitation & recovery of up to 14 men over 18 with severe & enduring mental health problems. The men can be residents for up to 2 yrs.

Fettle House provides rehabilitation for men & women over 16, with a long term mental illness. It aims to give them the skills they need to live more independently, with specialist mental health support if needed.

Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT)

ECT is provided from Bodmin Hospital. It is most commonly used to treat severe depression when other treatments have failed. Our ECT service is nationally recognised for its high standards & patient-centred approach.
