MenACWY Vaccine

We are calling for all students/teenages registered at Southend Medical Centre who are under the age of 25  to receive the MenACWY vaccine for free.

The meningococcal infection spreads through close persistent contact with people who unknowingly carry the bacteria.  Public Health England shows that cases of meningococcal disease peak each year during winter - December through to March.

Please telephone the Practice on 01702 333298 to arrange an appointment

More GP Appointments Released

Over the next month, we are working with NHS En gland to offer extra GP appointments.  This is because we know that there are times you want to be able to see a GP at short notice.  We also know that over winter lots of people have seasonsal illnesses which require more than a pharmacy but don't need emergency treatment

The extra appointments are available by ringing reception on the usual number or by booking online on southendmedicalcentre.co.uk

Urgent Appointments

If you require an URGENT on the day appointment, please contact receiption from 08.00hrs on the day.  These appointments are limited in number, but we will try and accomodate you at some point during the day.

The receptionist will request details from you regarding the appointment, so the doctor will be fully aware of the medical problem.

In consultation with the Doctor, there may be occasions that an on the day request for an appointment is declined but the next routine appointment will be offered.

If you have any comments or queries about our appointment system, please contact the practice manager on 01702 333298 or by email to karen.hepworth@nhs.net

Inappropriate use of Emergency services by Patients

It has come to the attention of the Practice that many registered patients are attending Southend Hospital for non urgent reasons eg medication, minor infections etc., In addition there are many patients who are calling an ambulance for inappropriate reasons.

Unless there is a life threatening situation for example chest pain or a serious accident, patients should contact the Practice for advice during thecore hours of 8.00am-18:30 Monday - Friday.

Outside of these hours patients should contact NHS 111.  The Doctor will offer advice, and if clinically appropriate arrange for the patient to either be seen at home or at an Out of Hours Centre.  If appropriate they will adv ise whether you need to attend hospital.

Remember you do not need to attend a hospital for medication.  Speak to your normal pharmacist first to see if they can help until you can next contact the Practice.

Please consider carefully whether you need to be seen as an emergency or whether the alternative services listed above are more appropriate for your needs
