EMERGENCIES OUTSIDE NORMAL WORKING HOURS

If you have a serious or life threatening medical emergency dial 999.

For other types of medical emergency dial 111.

This is an emergencies only service – most conditions will wait until the next ‘in hours’ surgery.

In the case of a medical emergency outside normal working hours you should ring 111 which will put you in touch with the doctor’s answering service. The GP may be able to offer advice over the telephone or ask you to attend the Primary Care Centre. You may be seen at the Primary Care Centre by an experienced nurse practitioner or paramedic instead of a GP if the problem is within their skills.

WE ARE PROUD TO BE A PARKRUN PRACTICE

parkrun

We are delighted to announce that we are now a parkrun practice.  This will help us improve the health and wellbeing of practice staff and patients.

GP practices are being encouraged to link with local parkruns to becoming a certified parkrun practice.  This is a ground-breaking initiative with The Royal College of General Practitioners and parkrun UK to see physical activity prescribed to patients instead of medication.

Why not give your local parkrun a try?

  • Everyone is welcome - whether you walk, jog, run or volunteer
  • FREE 5k events every Saturday morning in venues around Norfolk and FREE 2k junior parkruns every Sunday
  • Open to all regardless of health conditions, inactivity, disabilities or age.

For more detailed information about Norwich parkrun please visit www.parkrun.org.uk/norwich

There are parkrun events happening weekly across the country.  www.parkrun.org.uk/ to find your nearest one.

Improving access to general practice: weekend appointments available

Patients who are registered at this practice can book an appointment to see a GP on Saturday mornings.  Appointments will either take place at the Bowthorpe Health Centre or the Trinity Street Surgery.  Talk to the practice receptionist to find out more or book an appointment.

By March 2019 everyone in England will benefit from access to general practice appointments in the evenings and weekends at a time that is most convenient to them.  This is part of a national drive to help improve access to general practice and get the best possible outcomes for patients.  Further information is available at www.england.nhs.uk/gpaccess

Ear Irrigation Service Update & Advice

From time to time the Practice has to review the services that it offers to patients.  As a result of this we have decided that at present we will no longer be able to offer the Ear Irrigation Service.

We have put together some advice for those patients that are having problems with blocked ears due to ear wax.

Refurbishment at Bowthorpe Health Centre

Reception bhc

NOVEMBER 2013

A major refurbishment of Bowthorpe Health Centre in Norwich has been completed, bringing huge benefits to staff and patients.NHS Property Services (NHSPS) has completed the £1.25 million project to the centre to ensure the building is CQC compliant and to improve the building’s accessibility and waiting areas.

NHS Norfolk approved the scheme last year and NHSPS has successfully managed to complete the significant refurbishment, in phases, so that services in the building could remain in full operation and disruption to patient services was kept to a minimum. The centre now provides patients and staff with a modern, safe, high quality environment in which to work and access health care services.

The changes included rationalising the clinical spaces and waiting areas that were provided throughout the building, bringing all the services together around a large central waiting area and installing, with a new shared reception, which allows staff to effectively assist patients visiting the centre. The re-design has also made much more efficient use of the building’s internal space and has created reconfigured CQC compliant consultation rooms.

Sonja Kerridge, Practice Manager, said: “I’m pleased with the final result. It will enable us to continue providing our patients with high quality services in an up-to-date, modern and safe environment.”
