Phone Lines

Apologies to all of our patients - due to an outside fault to the phone lines we know it has been hard to get through to us.  We apologise for this delay and we have an engineer on site now.

At this practice we pride ourself on our stringent confidentialy rules and safeguarding our patients medical records at all times.

You may or may not be aware but all electronic (computer held) records are at the present time being uploaded to the National Spine.  For the present moment the following items only are in the process of being uploaded:

  • Demographic data (i.e. your name, address, date of birth, nhs number)
  • Medication
  • Allergies

During the coming year it is planned that further data from all GP computer systems will be uploaded.  This will amount to a full medical record being held electronically, on each patient nationally.

In many respects this is an excellent idea.  For instance if you are taken into hospital in any part of the Country the staff at that hospital will be able to access your records directly.  This will be especially useful if you are

  • Elderly
  • Unconscious
  • Confused and / or alone

as delays in medical treatment caused by delay in medical history can prove fatal.

However, you are legally entitled to refuse for any of your information to be uploaded at any time.  If you feel you do not want a summary care record either now or in the future please ask at reception and once you complete a simple declaration of your intentionthis will ensure that none of your medical record will be released.

Please bear in mind that demographic data, medication and allergies have already been sent.

If, however, you do not wish for this to be shared any longer please again ask at reception for a form to exclude your date.  This will then be retrieved and nothing further will be sent.
