The Maltings Surgery is in the heart of the shopping district in St Albans city centre and serves a growing population of 19000 patients. We are a progressive practice looking at new and exciting ways of working with a diverse team of doctors and nurses, lots of administrative and management support and we are soon to include paramedics and pharmacists in our mix. We offer phlebotomy on site and are currently developing our nursing teams interests to offer a minor illness service.

The practice ethos focuses around three aims: Staff and patient wellbeing, managing our workload safely and practice sustainability.  We encourage personal development and a culture of support including mentoring and supervision. We have track record of innovation with our own in-house NHS ultrasound service and are developing systems to minimise unnecessary paperwork and demand. The Maltings also has an active patient participation group who have set up and now run our social prescribing team which liaises with other agencies.

There is a strong emphasis on shared learning.  We are a training practice with several GP trainers and their trainees. Most of our GPs have a special interest which means there is a lot of in house expertise, ranging from commissioning and service re-design, through to mental health, dermatology and lifestyle medicine. We have regular practice meetings which rotate weekly.

The Maltings Surgery is committed to delivering excellent primary care and is a member practice of Herts Valley CCG.
