Wimbledon Guild is a community charity offering practical help and support to people living in Merton, so you’ll never have to face life’s challenges alone.
How we can help:
Support to live independently
If you’re aged 50 or over, our team can help you continue living safely and comfortably at home for as long as possible. We can support you with:
· Making sure you receive all the benefits, grants, and financial support you’re entitled to
· Helping you apply for transport options, such as Dial a Ride or a Blue Badge
Reducing Loneliness and Staying Connected
We offer services that help people and their carers feel supported and part of the community.
· Befriending – If someone doesn’t have any family or friends to visit, one of our volunteers can pop in regularly for a chat.
· Activities - our activities are open to any Merton resident who is aged 50 or over, able to actively engage in the activity and can attend independently (which can include a carer coming with them).
If you're not able to visit Wimbledon Guild, we can come to you! Our team will match you with one of our trained Volunteer Befrienders. Befrienders help people stay connected through regular social contact and companionship, and can provide support through home visits or regular phone calls, usually on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis.

Target group
You may be eligible for a Wimbledon Guild Volunteer Befriender if you:
· Are aged 50 or over,
· Live in Merton,
· Are housebound,
· Live alone,
· Have a long-term health condition.
Our Befriending service is provided by volunteers so, unfortunately, we cannot help everyone.
· For instance, we may be unable to support people with complex mental health issues or those who are unable to engage appropriately with us. We assess each situation individually and may decide with you that one of our partners offering more specialised befriending would be a better fit.
Further information
Financial Support: If you’re finding it hard to manage financially, we may be able to offer a one?off grant to help with essential costs such as food, clothing, or household appliances. Mental Health Support: We offer free online counselling for carers, providing a confidential space to talk with our qualified counsellors who understand the realities of caring, and the conflicting emotions that can come with it.
