Our members and many of the numerous contacts we deal with, together, have a wide knowledge and understanding of the problems, physical, mental and practical, that are caused by the illness. The condition is complicated by the fact that individuals vary considerably in both the backgrounds to their illness and the symptoms experienced. It follows that there is no "one size fits all" approach to managing the illness, so it is logical that help sought from a range of people with the condition should be best able to help.
At the end of 2021 we successfully applied to become a "Community Interest Company" which is similar to registered charity status but with much less red tape involved. It provides us with a more "official" status, helpful in seeking sources of funding, etc.
In theory we are trying to regenerate an old group that came close to folding due to lack of appropriate individuals willing and able to keep it going. In practice, we are more or less a new group starting from scratch.
In March of 2022 we started holding face-to-face meetings, once a month, based in Beverley. These are open to everyone, not just members. We have also, more recently, begun to experiment with ZOOM meetings.
Telephone conversations may be organised for individuals once initial contact has been made online.
