About

Southend Blind Welfare Organisation is an independent charity which provides practical help to visually impaired people in and around the Southend-on-Sea area.

Many projects are already in place and we are planning exciting new services to give visually impaired people the chance to do what they want and opportunities to gain confidence and 21st century skills.

Services offered:•a number of social clubs including bowling and rambling•organised trips and holidays•transport assistance: transport supplied to clubs, theatre trips and some other activities. Taxis used and there is a small charge for this.•free equipment loan scheme•residential home for elderly visually impaired people in Elkington House for 25 people (preference to people from Southend and Essex but people from other areas also accepted) •quarterly 'In Touch' newsletter for SBWO members•grants available for equipment and computers•'Help & Support' telephone calls to provide emotional support•hospital information service at Southend Hospital Eye Unit (three days a week, volunteers used).
