Sometimes we know that our feelings are due to particular circumstances such as marital stress, bereavements or illness, at other times we may have no idea what is making us feel the way we do. All we know is that our lives have become uncomfortable, difficult or even seemingly intolerable. Counselling offers a private safe space where people can talk through issues they are struggling with. The counsellor aims to provide a supporting relationship to enable the clients to resolve their own personal problems, by helping to identify the nature of the hurt and by giving non-judgemental support as the client reassesses their life situation and seeks more effective ways of coping and growing as a human being. It sometimes involves dealing with painful areas in our lives and it is important that these issues can be discussed within the confidential relationship of counsellor and client.
