Further information
Telephone Advice & Support for Independent Living, Direct PaymentsOur team of experienced Independent Living Advisers are available by telephone to discuss any queries or issues with regards to any aspect of direct payments, employing a personal assistant, payroll services, managing finances and completing paperwork. We will also e-mail or post out relevant information as required which includes templates of useful documents such as Terms & Conditions for a new member of staff.PA PortalWhether you are a personal assistant looking for work or someone wishing to employ a personal assistant, this can be a daunting and expensive task. Exclusively for the Barnsley area, Penderels Trust is offering an online facility for both PAs and potential employers to help make this much easier. Please note that we do not undertake background checks on potential employees as part of this service.Personal Assistant Recruitment ServiceThis service is offered by our sister company, All About People. This service allows employers to access a pool of fully vetted personal assistants available for work. We are currently building the register of carers/personal assistants in the Barnsley & Sheffield areas. We also offer training in personalisation for personal assistants as part of this service.Completion of Financial ReturnsIt is a requirement of Barnsley Council that individuals complete financial monitoring of how they spend their care monies. We can complete this task for you/the person you care for via post or in person if you would prefer.Third Party Supported AccountSome people are not able to manage their own care funds (or would prefer not to). We can do this for you through our Third Party Supported Account (TPSA) Service. The money from the individual's care package (i.e. the direct payment plus other funding) is received by Penderels Trust. We will pay all the agreed bills for care (e.g. care agency invoices or staff wages) from the money we hold on their behalf. They still have responsibility for their own money.Additional Living Support PackagesIt may be that the person you care for requires additional living support services to ensure they are able to get the most out of their direct payment package. We have a number of options offering a higher level of support (over and above the basic telephone support); we would discuss with you/the person you care for which would be most appropriate for their needs.Payroll ServicesThe Penderels Trust Payroll Bureau offers a specialist service for people who employ their own personal assistant or carer. Our service includes processing timesheets, issuing payslips, liaison with HMRC, calculation of sick pay and maternity pay, production of P60s and P45s, electronic submission of end-of-year returns to HMRC and calculation of quarterly payments to be made to HMRC. We also offer a BACS service where we pay staff wages directly into their bank account and make your quarterly payment to HMRC on your behalf.Peer Support GroupThe peer support group is an informal group of people who use Penderels Trust's services that meet on a regular basis; their carers are welcome to join them. The peer support group is run by the people who use our services, not by Penderels Trust themselves. They meet regularly to discuss issues around direct payments, the service we provide them and how we can move these services forward. The group also invites other people and organisations to talk to them about relevant topics or simply to entertain them.
Referral method
Both professional and self referral. We support individuals referred to us via the local authority (usually via a social worker) and we support those who are self-funding. Individuals who wish to consider taking a direct payment (or are enquiring on behalf of someone else) should speak to their social services department in the first instance. Individuals who receive no funding but wish to access support can contact Penderels Trust directly.
