NHS Health Checks are carried out within GP practices and in the community in Coventry.

GP practice staff carry out most of the Health Checks completed within practices and HLS Coventry then pay them a fee of £22.50. These checks are completed using a template located on EMIS.

HLS carry out Health checks at 2 surgeries in Coventry using the EMIS template and the surgery then receives a payment of £3 for each check.

Community checks are carried out at various venues across the City for example Dental Surgeries Job Shop Health bus and our office. These checks are completed using a different type of software called Health Diagnostics. This information is then passed electronically to the persons GP practice. There is no fee paid to HLS Coventry or the GP practice as it is part of the HLS contract.

Referral method

If you are 40-74 years old without a pre-existing condition and are registered with a GP you should receive a [letter/text] inviting you for a free NHS Health Check every 5 years. Once you get your invitation follow the instructions to book your appointment. You can also ask Healthy Lifestyles Service or your GP surgery to see if you are eligible to book a check with the community service.

Description of service

The NHS Health Check is a simple check of your heart health. Aimed at adults in England aged 40 to 74, it checks your vascular or circulatory health and works out your risk of developing some of the most disabling – but preventable – illnesses. It is free of charge, including any follow-up tests or appointments.
