Cambridge City Council run home improvement agency. Cambs HIA (previously known as Home Aid) is a home improvement agency that assists people living in Cambridge who are elderly or vulnerable, who have disability needs, or who are on a low income.

Cambs HIA helps people repair, maintain or adapt their homes by providing practical or financial advice and support, to enable them to remain in their own homes in greater comfort and safety.

There are two main streams of funding available - Disabled Facilities Grants, and home-improvement grants and loans.Disabled Facilities Grants of up to £30,000 are available to carry out adaptation works that will help a disabled person remain living independently in their own home.Alternatively, if you have less than £20,000 in savings and have owned your property for more than three years, you can apply for a non-secured grant of up to £1,000, or a repair grant or loan of up to £5,000 or £20,000 respectively.All funding is provided interest-free and with no repayments. Repair grants and loans are secured as a charge on your property.
