The NHS Health Check service is available at your local GP practices and in the community delivered by the council's Health and Wellbeing service across the Blackburn with Darwen catchment area

Referral method

If you are 40-74 years old without a pre-existing condition and are registered with a GP you should receive a text letter or phone call inviting you for a free NHS Health Check every 5 years. Once you get your invitation follow the instructions to book your appointment. You can also ask your GP surgery to see if you are eligible or contact the council's Health and Wellbeing Service at https://refreshbwd.com/wellbeing-support/health-checks/ to find out dates and locations of the community service.

Description of service

The NHS Health Check is a simple check of your heart health. Aimed at adults in England aged 40 to 74, it checks your vascular or circulatory health and works out your risk of developing some of the most disabling – but preventable – illnesses. It is free of charge, including any follow-up tests or appointments.
