You are only entitled to an NHS Health Check from the local authority in which you live.
This service is available to eligible residents or patients registered to a GP in this catchment area.

Referral method

Each year a number of eligible residents will be invited to have an NHS Health Check. Residents will be either invited by text or letter.

If you are aged 40 to 74 have not had an NHS Health Check in the last 5 years and do not have a pre-existing condition such as heart disease diabetes or kidney disease or had a stroke you may be invited to have a health check. Once you receive your invitation please follow the booking instructions.

There are also NHS Health Check delivered by our healthy lifestyle service LiveWell Dorset or those who may have trouble accessing NHS health checks in their area. Keep an eye out for their community events.

You may be invited to attend one of these local community drop-in targeted health checks if you are:

A smoker

Overweight

A high blood pressure

Live in an area of deprivation

Are of black ethnicity

Description of service

The NHS Health Check is a simple check of your heart health. Aimed at adults in England aged 40 to 74, it checks your vascular or circulatory health and works out your risk of developing some of the most disabling – but preventable – illnesses. It is free of charge, including any follow-up tests or appointments.

Service type
