  1. Review titled Finding purpose and direction

by sloth - Posted on 13 July 2023

I was really struggling mentally during/after leaving school, I couldn't open up about these problems to people and as a result I ended up with less than ideal grades on result day. I felt like I didn’t deserve the luxury of choice, I knew I eventually had to seek work regardless of how sick it made me feel. However after getting referred to Future’s Positive for their Employment Support service I got the opportunity to work with Jordan, and after explaining my situation she helped me realise that I still had a choice in what I did, this wasn’t just about me getting any old job, it was about me finding work and skills that applied to me, doing something that I _wanted_ to do. Over the next few months that we worked together, we explored many possibilities for employment and worked on skills that would help me gain employment when the situation arises, and for that I am so thankful. Jordan (and this service) has really helped me find the direction I needed when I felt like I had nothing, I still had choices and preferences even when it seemed like I had none due to my circumstances.

  2. Review titled Lack of support during a mental health crisis

    by Sunflower19 - Posted on 08 August 2023

I have struggled to access support for my mental health for a long time, with the team deeming me as okay because of my risks being less severe than what they once were, therefore won't offer me any support. A year later my referral got accepted and they decided to take me under their service, as now my risks increased again, due to being left with no support for a year, and now they wonder where it all went wrong. I try to get support out of hours from the crisis team, and leave regular voicemails when they don't answer the phone straight away, asking for a call back when someone is free, as I am very aware they will have other patients to speak to. However, they never call me back despite me saying I am having a mental health crisis. One night I was so desperate I called 58 times over the space of 4 hours and left multiple voicemails, for them never to respond. On the rare occasion they do answer the phone, I have found their practitioners very incompetent and don't provide any support, and tell you to go on a walk and to go get something to eat, ignoring the fact that I struggle to leave the house and also have an eating disorder, making those comments very invalidating and shows they haven't even bothered to read my notes/what helps me in crisis. The duty team aren't much better either, in my experience. Although the staff that work in the team are better at validating my emotions and offer more crisis input when needed, they rarely ever ring you back. The process is - you call into the team - ask to speak to the duty work as you are struggling - they will try and forward you onto them - if they are on a call or busy, reception will take down your phone number, name and date of birth, so they can contact you later But after that you are waiting all day for them to ring you back, trying to hold yourself together waiting for this call, and they fail to call back. I feel I am being failed by this service and they are really waiting for a death or an incident that could have been prevented, because it seems like the team simply do not care. They fail to meet your needs, don't follow care plans and don't escalate concerns when they are being raised. I think that some staff really need to find new jobs, because for me their cold and harsh attitudes when speaking to unwell patients is unacceptable.

  3. Review titled With the therapy I felt listened to and understood

    by violetqb57 - Posted on 15 June 2023

I suffer with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). With the therapy I felt listened to and understood. With friendly and helpful staff and therapists who tried really hard to understand me and my circumstances.

  5. Review titled Inpatient admission

    by AW111 - Posted on 07 June 2023

I’m aware every young persons experience on Phoenix ward is different but personally I think that despite how uncomfortable hospitals can make you feel, this ward has some truly remarkable staff that helped me feel safe and supported during my whole admission. Communication through MDT is quite poor and I feel like I wasn’t listened to and I often felt invalidated by doctors and consultants. “Alone” was a common feeling of mine over the period of time I spent here but I’m proud to say that I wasn’t given up on. The team continued to help me and move me forward and I don’t think I would be where I am today if it wasn’t for Hopewood!

  6. Review titled Better for those who are low risk

    by hippoet37 - Posted on 06 July 2023

The recovery college classes were informative and teacher were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It is a good as an early intervention, but I feel it would be better suited to those in *primary* mental health services. As someone under secondary mental health care, this is not enough and I am still waiting for personalised therapy options. There needs to be more options for those those in secondary care, and personalized plans and therapy – all of which I have not received. I also think the NHS should not based your access to treatment on risk level. Until I am high risk I cannot access anything and I am just waiting until I am more at risk. Recovery college would be better for those who are low risk and are experiencing mental health conditions for the first time, not those who have been through the system time and time again over the years…

Hello hippoet37 Thank you for taking time to give us your feedback it is very much appreciated. Also thank you for acknowledging that the classes were informative and the teachers were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. In relation to your wider points, as you have correctly identified, our service is not therapy. I hear your personal wish for 'personalised therapy' which is something we do not offer. I am happy if you wish to discuss this further so I can pass your concerns and views on to a manager who has oversight over adult community mental health services. My number is 0115 956 0827 please do get in touch if you wish to discuss further. Best wishes Helen

  10. Review titled Nobody ever answers the phone

by Let down again - Posted on 27 June 2023

Feel let down yet again. Phoned Nottingham county crisis team nobody answered. Phoned the city line who passed my details and was told that someone would call me back in 2 minutes. 45 minutes later still nothing. Feeling so bad that no one ever answers. Not the first time
