  1. Review titled I have found the assertiveness course particularly interesting.

    by zulucb47 - Posted on 31 October 2023

I have found the assertiveness course particularly interesting with some really useful insights. Previously I would have thought myself to be quite assertive, but I now realise being assertive required me to be authentic to myself - and this is the area I need to work on.

  2. Review titled You might need to rethink some of your practice today

by Katebg - Posted on 08 September 2023

Whilst I was at Sherwood Oaks there were doors slamming constantly, alarms repeatedly going off behind reception, where the staff are too busy talking about personal topics to mind. But the icing on the cake for me was listening to a staff member (30 minutes after a fire alarm test), explaining to a another staff member how in the case of a fire, people on the wards and upstairs can't get out without keys and they don't usually take keys upstairs. The other staff member confirmed it had been like that for a while You might need (in a legally required way) to rethink some of your practice today.

  4. Review titled Most caring and informative

    by pictorkm89 - Posted on 20 November 2023

A+E at KMH Efficient and very caring. knew I was being looked after. Waited overnight for a bed. KMH Eight days in, all the tests and checked everyday and adjusted medication. Then allocated heart failure nurse. Most caring and informative, especially with regards to need for and changing medication. I don't think this could have been better - even went the extra mile to send me blood test paper for hospital. I needed (very much) the encouragement/necessity/you must do it to continue to check my own blood pressure etc. Thanks to all.

Physio got me a new chair and gave me some exercises to help with my mobility. They've made life easier by making it easier to get in and out of my chair.

  7. Review titled Unable to access support

    by melonqw89 - Posted on 01 September 2023

I called the crisis team in distress, to be immediately spoke to by a person with a really poor attitude. When I said that I don't know what will help me right now (in floods of tears), they asked me why I was ringing the crisis team, and that I needed to find out what helps me, this team is for people that are in crisis, and I don't sound like I'm in crisis. I responded back to this by asking what in their opinion then defines a crisis. They replied that it was someone that would like to end their life and has already attempted to do so. I was so shocked at this and began crying more, shouting that I don't want to have to do that to get support, I just want to prevent it. They then told me that they couldn't help me and told me to refer to IAPT. I said I wasn't able to do this as all primary care services have said they can't meet my needs, hence now being under a LMHT, and they then said that this conversation isn't getting us anywhere and put the phone down on me. I've had some back contact with the crisis team, but I think this has been the worst. To be told when you're distressed that you cannot access support is horrendous. I ended up being worse off after this call and felt unable to protect myself.

  8. Review titled Crisis care at night

by madperson - Posted on 20 July 2023

I have complained so many times and nothing is getting better This time a response of-we know it’s not working and we need to improve things-is just not going to cut it So many times I ring when I am distressed at night and no one answers the phone. To then be bombarded with leave your name, date of birth, telephone number and the team you are open to is just too overwhelming when you are distressed I rang so many times during the night last night and couldn’t leave a message. Finally just after 5am I left what I know was a clear message asking for someone to ring me I was struggling and feeling suicidal. I had hurt myself during a mental health crisis and needed help I felt reassured that I had finally been able to leave a message and trusted that someone would ring me and I could get the help I needed However, as is very normal recently no one rang me back and I am now sat outside the hospital trying to find the courage to go in and get some help If there is no support at night why not just be honest and say so and I won’t spend hours waiting for help that never comes This is putting my life at risk and I need to get something resolved as quickly as possible

Dear madperson, I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you've experienced when trying to contact our crisis service. We have had numerous issues since we changed our phone system and we are working very hard with our telephony colleagues to overcome these difficulties however this is a long process. I would urge you to continue phoning the crisis service when you experience a mental health crisis and I will alert the team leader to the difficulties you have experienced. 9. Review titled Mental health support for my son

    by normaex87 - Posted on 10 July 2023

My 16 year old son was trying to climb out his bedroom window at midnight to go out with his friends. He has ASD and I was very concerned about his vulnerabilities in making impulsive decisions and not being honest with us. He’s already in trouble with the police, I feel he’s struggling with the changes coming his way as he’s left school and has no plans for the next 2 months. I have tried to get support but really struggled to get the help we need, I have arranged private counselling for him. Having come into A&E, I’ve not felt supported as a parent and we have been waiting for CAMHS for over 7 hours. I feel that the system to support mental health is failing our young people. I feel so alone and let down, it’s like there is prevention to help before my son does something to either harm himself or someone else, we don’t feel safe around him as a family.
