  1. Review titled A&E/Ward 2

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kathryn McCreedy - Posted on 13 April 2023

I just want to say thank you for looking after my mum when she was admitted via ambulance on 11/04/23 through A&E and Ward 2. As an A&E nurse myself in a different trust, I was really impressed with the level of kindness, support and good communication given to my mum as well as myself. I felt she was looked after and updated at every step of the way. I was able to stay with my mum while she was seen and sorted and I really appreciated that as I was expecting specific visiting times. I fully support the junior Doctors strike and I am behind them 100%. I would never have known there was a strike and the consultant we saw on ward 2 was informative and carried out his examination exemplary. The nursing staff were lovely including the staff nurse looking after my mum as well as the sister who discharged her. The healthcare staff offering my mum and myself food and drink regularly was really appreciated when I was really worried. We’re so lucky to have the NHS and I’m proud to be a part of it. My mum is doing better and we’re both thankful for our excellent experience. I would like the staff involved in my mothers care to be recognised is some way. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with me so I can give personal details in order to find the staff who looked after. Thank You.

  2. Review titled How it should be

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I am currently undergoing some investigations in the Dermatology department at UHND, so far 3 visits. The reception, nursing and medical staff, and the administrative staff on the telephone, have all just been outstanding at every visit and every telephone encounter. Everything has been explained really well, and I have absolute confidence in the team who are treating me. Though I’m fortunate to not be a regular visitor to the hospital, if every department is like this, well done UHND.

  4. Review titled Dirty

Rated 1 star out of 5

Was shocked to walk into a&e at how dirty the place was, I’ve never seen floors like it, and the smell of the place is like a pub, people standing right at the main doors smoking while poorly children walking by, shocks me that these people are not asked to move considering it’s says it’s a smoke free zone. you can smell smoke all the way up the corridor, I’ve never seen an a&e like it, safe to say I wouldn’t be returning. But most the staff we seen were nice and helpful just shocked the place is in such a state and it’s allowed to be like that.

I visited the A&E on Thursday 2nd March my daughter of 22 has autism, she is non verbal. My daughter had a bad foot she couldn't walk. we got an ambulance sent by 111. the ambulance workers managed to get my daughter down the stairs in a chair and sent us off to dryburn in our own car, the told us the phone dryburn and someone would be waiting for us at a&ewhen we got there no support was available, I went to the reception at A&E and was spoken to by a rude receptionist appalling attitude who shouldn't be in that job. anyway no details were there for my daughter and was told a poryer had been called for to come to our aid 45 mins later no porter. iphoned 111 again and asked for an appointment at shotley bridge were we should have been taken in the first place. we got an appointment within the hour and my daughter had a Xray. she had a fractured foot god love her. ihope I never have to visit that appalling a&eagain. awful place.

  6. Review titled Rude Staff

by golden duck - Posted on 21 March 2023

I came to the hospital for an appointment went to main reception with my letter. 2 members of staff were sitting talking so I stood waiting for them to finish. I stood for over 5 minutes and not even acknowledged by either. I then just walked away and tried to find the department my self. All they had to do was say we will be a couple of minutes but to be totally ignored I found just down right rude and ignorant.

Terrible I broke my hip I was on ward 17 the so called after care was beyond discussing I wasn’t given my medication I was treat like a 3 year old at times & a mental patient at other times I asked over n over for my pain relief just to be told they didn’t have it so I some how survived on paracetamol after having hip surgery so on the 6 th day I left the hospital I couldn’t take it anymore, I take morphine slow release plus the liquid the staff put me at risk by not giving me it I was suffering withdrawals plus the pain from my hip , not to mention the rudeness I could go on but I’ll finish by saying I am not terrified of having to go into hospital again

  8. Review titled Shocked at A&E cleanliness and accommodation

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 March 2023

New to area and this NHS facility. I was so shocked at the facility, filthy floors, a cleaner wiping all surfaces, including waste bins, hand rails, hand sterilising station, with a dirty dry j cloth no cleaning fluid not even any water to rinse said cloth. Covid, flu and Novo virus active in the area. Sick people being kept in these unsavoury and bad smelling rooms, beggars belief after the two years being locked down, no basic lessons learned !
