  1. Review titled Great team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie Harkness - Posted on 09 August 2023

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on the day ward the anaesthetist, the gynaecology and theatre team for the way they treat me on my recent day surgery. Everyone was so friendly and patient and explained everything that was happening clearly allaying any fears I had. You really do a sterling job and your efforts are really appreciated.

  2. Review titled Need to talk

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Very upset - Posted on 09 August 2023

If departments talked to each other then perhaps the discharging of patients might happen sooner instead of being told that you need to stay another night because microbiology can’t seem to get their finger out to sign a release paper which so far 2 days in and we are still waiting.

  3. Review titled Excellent

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Piercy - Posted on 01 August 2023

Had a couple of procedures yesterday and I was so well looked after, both in the treatment I received and the courtesy extended to me, I feel I must bring it to your attention. The doctor and nurse were superb and I cannot praise them high enough. Thank you

  4. Review titled Seriously?

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Chris Leishman - Posted on 27 June 2023

Have a cpap machine which I rely on to sleep. It has ceased to function last night. When I rang for advice and support went to message service which even said may not get back to me same day so I am promised another sleepless night. Surely a reply service daily is not asking too much. I am only assuming that I will get a reply even tomorrow. Not impressed.

  5. Review titled Excellent Medical Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mary - Posted on 11 May 2023

Excellent clinical service. Could not fault staff. Points to improve: Environment, very oppressive waiting area, toilets disgusting Waiting time too long (10 hours). Despite these points the staff and the medical treatment was exceptional.

  6. Review titled Bad Experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Margaret Peacock - Posted on 12 June 2023

Was taken To A and E after a horrific fall, dislocated by shoulder bad cut to head requiring 16 staples total agony with doctor trying to relocate shoulder eventually they must have sedated me as I couldn’t let them touch arm. I had Covid at the time. Care compassion and communication non existent. I was told I could go home after two days. I was not given any advice on how to treat should went back to hospital after 12 days seemingly to have my nose reset I wasn’t aware of this thought it was to remove staples. I had to ask if these were being removed was told do you want them out. The nurse who removed them was lovely and caring. I was still not given any advice on shoulder so I put a complaint in. Had a phone call from someone who said she was the Matron and apologised for there being no communication and a doctor would ring me next day by lunchtime. I got a call from a rather unpleasant lady from the fracture clinic asking why I had an appointment that day at the fracture clinic I told her I knew nothing of this. She then told me the doctor would see me at the hospital the following Thursday. I have been in agony with my shoulder and this is 5 weeks now and after the treatment from this hospital I contacted the Quality care commission. My own doctor has arranged for me to visit physio department at Bishop Auckland. While I was in a A and E they weren’t sure if there was a slight fracture but they gave me no information as to if there was a fracture or not. I hope nobody else has to go through this a horrendous experience. As a pensioner I would have expected better.

  7. Review titled Compassion and Outstanding Staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 June 2023

Following my recent and devastating loss of my wife Irene Tunstall on Sunday 28/5/2023, on behalf of myself and my family I feel that is important to acknowledge the magnificent care and support from all of the staff on Ward 16 at the University Hospital of North Durham. During this difficult time, they were outstanding in helping us cope with the situation we were facing, and their unwavering compassion, dignity, guidance and professionalism were second to none. It is always tough to witness the final chapter in a loved one’s life, but with all of the staff of Ward 16 it was a final chapter that was made acceptable and allowed us to come to terms with the outcome. We will never forget the care, help and sympathy they showed towards us in this very emotional time. With the very deepest gratitude. David and Family.

Just want to express my extreme gratitude for the treatment I received from the paramedics, admittance/scan staff & particularly the staff on ward 2 after suffering a stroke Friday 14th April 2023 which without doubt would have left me with permanent damage. Thanks again for giving me a second chance in life Regards Brian Mason & family

  9. Review titled A&E/Ward 2

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kathryn McCreedy - Posted on 13 April 2023

I just want to say thank you for looking after my mum when she was admitted via ambulance on 11/04/23 through A&E and Ward 2. As an A&E nurse myself in a different trust, I was really impressed with the level of kindness, support and good communication given to my mum as well as myself. I felt she was looked after and updated at every step of the way. I was able to stay with my mum while she was seen and sorted and I really appreciated that as I was expecting specific visiting times. I fully support the junior Doctors strike and I am behind them 100%. I would never have known there was a strike and the consultant we saw on ward 2 was informative and carried out his examination exemplary. The nursing staff were lovely including the staff nurse looking after my mum as well as the sister who discharged her. The healthcare staff offering my mum and myself food and drink regularly was really appreciated when I was really worried. We’re so lucky to have the NHS and I’m proud to be a part of it. My mum is doing better and we’re both thankful for our excellent experience. I would like the staff involved in my mothers care to be recognised is some way. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with me so I can give personal details in order to find the staff who looked after. Thank You.

  10. Review titled How it should be

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carol Unsworth - Posted on 21 April 2023

I am currently undergoing some investigations in the Dermatology department at UHND, so far 3 visits. The reception, nursing and medical staff, and the administrative staff on the telephone, have all just been outstanding at every visit and every telephone encounter. Everything has been explained really well, and I have absolute confidence in the team who are treating me. Though I’m fortunate to not be a regular visitor to the hospital, if every department is like this, well done UHND.
