  1. Review titled Ipswich Hospital A golden nugget don’t lose it !

Rated 5 stars out of 5

This my second cataract surgery appointment and I would be happy to have many more but I only have two eyes. Joking apart ; Sight is perhaps our most important senses and the thought of someone taking a scalpel to your eyes is somewhat frightening. However we have a health service which we know we can trust and is free at the point of delivery. Something which is often quoted and something that is very true. Seven weeks ago I had my first consultation at the ophthalmology department at Ipswich Hospital. A month ago I had my first cataract surgery. Today I had my second and final surgery. The care I have received has been absolutely fantastic. Professionalism by all members of healthcare staff from consultants to porters can not be faulted all were very helpful and respectful. In my case everything was explained and all questions were answered in laymen’s terms. Appointments were initially by verbal agreement confirmed by a letter and then a text reminder the week before. There was also a telephone call A few days before requesting relevant information about your current state of health and if you had received any changes your stated medication and finally, how you were going to get home and a contact number for that transport, as you would not be able to drive for a recommended three hours. Nothing was left out. I have nothing but praise for our wonderful Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust. From what I could see of the staff, they are all working flat out, no one was stood doing nothing. We in the UK don’t realise how privileged we are to have such a service. So we should look after it before we lose it. Thank You all you lovely caring people you have my admiration, always. Mr R Bruce

I had an ecocardiogram on the 17th of November 2023. I have not had the results sent to my GP yet. Today 1st of February 2024 I first called my GP who said they have not recieved my results and told me to call the cardiac unit which I have done. It seems you are not taking any calls at present I will have to put my details and questions to the answer phone. What has happened to good helpfule patient practice, I only want to know the results of the test? Maureen Dorks

  3. Review titled Tremendous experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I could not speak more highly of our recent experience at Ipswich hospital. Facilities were great, but what really made the experience was the absolutely excellent staff. We had an elective c-section booked in on Dec 19th. Upon arrival we were greeted and ushered to our ward, which was spacious and comfortable. We were visited by several nurses / midwives / doctors who were unbelievably kind and informative. There was a constant flow of attention and information, meaning we were never wondering what was next. This was particularly helpful and comforting during this quite nervous time. When it was time to be taken upstairs we were largely looked after the anesthetist who was a superstar through the entire process. Kind, caring, informative and professional. We were very impressed by him. We were taken into the theatre and the procedure was carried out. There was an issue with low blood pressure which was taken care of quickly. The doctor assistant to the anesthetist was great during this time. Throughout the entire procedure, all doctors/ midwives and nurses were attentive and constantly updating us on what was happening. The main consultant surgeon was excellent. We were taken back to the ward and looked after by the incredible team of midwives and nurses. They were nothing short of incredible. Truly wonderful staff. Absolutely amazing. From start to finish we were impressed by the hospital and its staff. The staff really were phenomenal and we would highly recommend to our friends and families. A great experience. Thank you!

Last Saturday my wife and I attended Stour ward for my wife to get a blood transfusion. From the moment we entered the ward all the staff were extremely helpful, kind and professional, it made the eight hours pass quickly and easily. This was one of the best experiences we have had to date. The ward was spotlessly clean and tidy and the food was good. So far to date although we have had limited treatment in Ipswich hospital we have been very pleased with every aspect.

  5. Review titled Answer the phone!

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been trying to get through to the x-ray department for three days now by phone. After waiting months for an appointment, it is at the same time as an appointment in another department - this Saturday. I can't attend but someone else could take up the appointment and I need to reschedule - you can bet that if I don't get through to x-ray I will be down as a 'no show'. I have even tried going through main reception who told me they are having 'staff issues' - what a shambles, leading to lost appointments and an appalling patient experience.

I am sorry that you have not been able to get through on the phone to the cancel your x-ray appointment due to another conflicting appointment in another department, and for the unnecessary stress and inconvenience that this has caused you. I have passed your comments on to the Matron for the area for their attention. We would like to know some more details to see if we can make any changes to the system, however for us to do this can you please give me a call on 01473 702101 at your convenience. Thank you. 6. Review titled Great staff at the endoscopy unit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by maria kemp - Posted on 03 November 2023

I want to say that the staff in the endoscopy dept are exceptionally good. I had a fainting episode whilst there which was scary and embarrassing, the doctors and nurses looked after me extremely well and made me feel like a person not just a number. They were concerned for me and made me less embarrassed and not so worried. They were all very caring and were genuinely lovely people. All very professional and good at there jobs

  7. Review titled First time in hospital.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was sent to the surgical assessment unit by my Doctors' surgery Practice Nurse. I had a dangerously distended abdomen which needed urgent attention. I was seen to in what l believe was a reasonable time with great care and understanding before l was moved to a surgical ward (Stowupland) as an in-patient for some tests and procedures over several days. It was decided that l should really be in the Gastronomy (Stradbroke) ward which took a few more days through a shortage of beds l believe. This period was the most frustrating as l was left in a kind of "limbo" without much information as to my future treatment. After l was eventually transferred things moved at a good pace. Procedures were done, every day an attentive doctor and/or a consultant or specialist came to see me to spend time to explain each step and plan for my treatment. I was dealt with by several departments. CT scans, colonoscopy, radiology and imaging. All of the staff and professionals involved with me treated me with great sympathy, understanding and respect at all times. It was my very first time in any hospital and l was truly impressed by the care and attention l saw, not only for me but for all of my fellow patients...yes even the grumpy ones! Thanks to all who knew of me during the four-and-a-half weeks l was there, and thanks for your help during a most difficult time. I think l made a few people cheerful as they did me. My problem isn't solved yet but fingers crossed.

It is great to see how so many departments linked up for your treatment and diagnosis, and helpfully this will go towards solving your problem. I am sorry that for part of your stay you were not aware of what has due to happen and we are always looking at ways to improve communication with patients. 8. Review titled Please review access to new Fracture Clinic

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 October 2023

Before I start, please let me say that every person I have dealt with on my recent trips to Ipswich Hospital has been caring and professional if obviously overworked however I arraived at your new fracture clinic with a broken ankle and a frame. To begin with, the drop off, pick up area feels about a mile from the door when you have restricted mobility There are few ways of gaining support, initially some fencing and then three benches before what appears to be an acres of wide open space before you get to the door Once you get in the door, there's the log in machine - again with no visible way of being supported whilst entering endless questions It's a nightmare

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on the new layout for dropping patients off at Ipswich Hospital Fracture Clinic. I have spoken to the Matron who has expressed her apologies for any inconvenience that the building work has caused. Once the works have finished the Fracture clinic will be moving to a more accessible area, unfortunately for the short term we have had to put drop of areas where it is safe for patients and public. Again I am sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused and hopefully this will be a short term solution. The Matron has said that they will review the entrance to clinic and if possible provide chairs for patients next to the log in machines and see how they can support patients once in the department. Many thanks

  9. Review titled Abysmal Hospital. If not Dangerous!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Chris Skywalker - Posted on 16 October 2023

I have been awaiting urgent Heart Surgery for 7 months. 2 of these months is due to Ipswich Cardiology not sending the necessary documents to Papworth as requested by Papworth and local GP 3 times each. Even now after using every single number in Ipswich Cardiology I get no answer or responses to my messages. It seems like they've shut down the Cardiology department. All 18 numbers I've used is a deadline where all you can do is leave a voicemail. Please for the love of God send the documents to Papworth Hospital ASAP. It isn't difficult! Papworth Hospital and my GP cannot get hold of anyone in Cardiology, by letter or calling. Ipswich Hospital seem inept at completing simple tasks and putting my life at an unnecessary risk. This is a dangerous game to play. Day by day I'm getting worse. Without the images and documents my urgent surgery cannot go ahead. Do not go to this hospital for anything other than a bruise. If you need specialist care at another hospital, they will not provide them with the information necessary. Avoid this Hospital if at all possible! I've experienced better coordination in Hospitals in Africa. Shocking.

This was my third visit to the urology ultrasound outpatients clinic this year and each time I came away with nothing but praise for all the staff who looked after me. I was shown nothing but courtesy, kindness and respect from everyone involved. During the course of the procedures I was always informed what was happening and had time to ask my questions at the end of the consultation, never feeling rushed.
