  1. Review titled Frustrating lengthy delays with paperwork

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Richard Pearce - Posted on 02 December 2022

I've two medical reports waiting to be produced - one for private medical treatment (send to the practice in March) and life insurance (sent in September). Despite chasing on several occasions, where they confirm they have them, I've had responses along the lines of "I'll see what I can do", and "there's just a queue". Never a commitment to actually completing the requests. Waiting three quarters of a year for a doctor to complete a form is ridiculous, and means I am unable to have treatment privately, potentially reducing burden on the NHS. And the more recent request stops my new child from being protected by a life insurance policy. When you see a GP, they are great. However considering the problems I've had with this paperwork, along with the general struggle to get appointments, and regular phone queues at 30-40 minutes, I do not recommend this surgery to new patients.

No matter what time of day constantly waiting in a queue for about 40mins -1hour makes you think there is only 1 operator. The impression given when calling and eventually get through that they would rather you were not seen face to face doesn’t give much faith if you are seriously ill. Even have to call up to get my blood test results they won’t call me with them !!!!!!

I am very sorry for the difficulties you feel you have encountered with the surgery. We have a large call centre facility which is fully staffed with 10 staff at our peak times and enables up to 30 patients to wait in a queue to speak to staff. The telephone system is at its peak between the hours of 08.00am and 10.00am. We are however, experiencing extremely high levels of telephone calls, throughout the day and have taken steps to request patients with queries to call back after 10.00am, thus enabling the call centre to take calls regarding appointments between 8.00am and 10.00am. All appointment requests are triaged and patients needing a face to face are given appointments, if deemed appropriate following triage. Our reception staff are fully trained and competent in patient triage, signposting and NHS systems in place. I hope this answers your comment, However, you are more than welcome to contact me, Lisa Astbury, Practice Manager, at the surgery on 0121 357 3309 to discuss and hopefully resolve your issues.

  3. Review titled No continuity - mistakes being made

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I’m pregnant and visited the practice in July after I was asked to drop off a urine sample. On arrival the nurse tested my urine and said I had an infection, she would speak to the doctor and get back to me. I tried to chase this up and heard nothing. A month on my midwife called to say she had tested a sample I provided at my appointment last week and i had an infection, she has spent the last week trying to contact my GP as I need antibiotics. I have been unwell for over a month and my GP hasn’t done anything to help. This could have been resolved weeks ago but was missed. I rarely visited the GP in the past as I didn’t have any health issues, but now I’m pregnant and require support I’m being failed and things are being missed. There is no continuity of care and it is impossible to see a doctor in person since the practice moved and merged.

Reception staff did their best to get me a appointment as soon as possible. Dr Jemahl always takes the time to listen to me.
