  1. Review titled Worse Than Useless

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 September 2023

Tried to get an appointment by telephone for 2 weeks as had a throat & ear infection & needed antibiotics. Could not get through on phone where outo message immediately states "there is no capacity" or when did get through got told same by girl. Called 111 & got told they could also not make an appoinment (means their reserved appointments are used already) & I shoudl go to A&E - a sixty mile round trip to wait up to 12 hours with no one to drive me & I have disabilities as well as illness. Got dentist appointment privately today at no notice & prescribed antibiotics for the throat & ear infection which had by now spread into my mouth - my teeth fine & needed no attention. So I paid £45.70 instead of being seen on NHS & getting anitibiotics free or as I have paid NI - my entitlement. Dreadful, hopeless lack of service. We need a new GP practice in Rutland immediately. NB dentist says this is happening far to frequently.

  2. Review titled not great!

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Evie - Posted on 21 September 2023

I’m type one diabetic and have been for the past 7 years! I have been put onto a pump and a Dexcom which have made my life so much easier! now, in order to have a pump I have to have vials of insulin but have to have my pre-filled pens still on my prescription (in case my pump fails). Almost every other prescription, I request for my vials and they end up giving me pre-filled pens, like seriously you’re prescribing me the wrong items when I haven’t even requested them! I also don’t think your team understands the urgency of needing insulin when I physically cannot survive without it but they just really don’t seem to care about that! Not only this, this item is special order so they don’t typically have it in stock at the pharmacy and it takes around 3 days for them to get it in, yet again they really don’t care about this, even though I have mentioned it several times and yet again I’m left without my insulin pump for another 5 days minimum! secondly I was put onto the Dexcom one which is amazing! however when i was referred for it, I got a copy of the referral letter and it specifically states that I should get three every month! now please tell me why I have just gone to put in my prescription for my Dexcom (this is only my second device I’ve ever used, the first one got sent in the post by the hospital and the second one was prescribed) and they are refusing to prescribe me my device when they only gave me one which lasts 10 days and I am not allowed another one until the 8th of October (it’s currently the 21st of September), like seriously how can they do this when they have it black and white from the hospital! I honestly don’t think they ever check your notes or anything at the gp as I had to request that this was added to my prescription and they said that they hadn’t received anything, however when the women I spoke to had a “proper look”, she said that they received the referral 12 days ago! this is honestly really starting to frustrate me now as it is starting to effect my life by making it 10 times harder than it already should be! I’m so disappointed and honestly don’t know what to do now! I am with Rutland late night pharmacy and they have never faulted me, it always seems to be the gp side of them sending it over to them!

  3. Review titled Repeat Prescriptions

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 September 2023

Called last Wednesday for a repeat prescription. Listened to the voice options menu and the only mention was patients who are house bound needing repeat prescriptions. So waited to speak to a receptionist, to my surprise they couldn't help advising I needed to go onto their website to complete an online form. They were unable to do it for me eventhough they confirmed the drug I needed and my details. Why isn't this included on your recorded messages? If so I could of completed the form before I spoke to someone, therefore not wasting mine or the practice's time and I wouldn't be left so frustrated! Oakham MP please can you improve your service, this is so unprofessional, your communication really needs to improve.

  5. Review titled Turned away by Oakham Medical Practice reception.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by HOWARD JOHN SMITH - Posted on 19 August 2023

On the 16 August 23 I went to the surgery with a perceived chest infection as I`m asthmatic having battled it for a week hoping it would go.(This was about 16.50pm) The receptionist told me to go to Corby, ring 111 whereby a locum doctor would possibly ring me from an unknown location or, queue the following morning outside at 8 am ish. Having explained to her I felt somewhat faint and didn`t feel able to drive a distance safely, this did not seem to register? I did get sorted out with some anti biotics but not at the actual surgery. What on earth is going on? Most of us would not be there if not needed to be. Hypochondria is not my thing!

  6. Review titled Nurses

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Katie - Posted on 27 March 2024

I received treatment for a wound daily for 2 months & I cannot praise the wound nurses enough. I was under the care of 4 different nurses who were all attentive, kind & professional & made me feel at ease at all times. This is the second time I have had a wound dressed for a prolonged amount of time & the care I received 3 years ago was just as good.

  7. Review titled Parallel Universes

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Bill - Posted on 18 August 2023

Having stumbled across the review section of the Oakham Medical Practice site today, I think I might be living in a parallel universe, having read some of the vituperative comments therein. With the notable exception of one receptionist, who I have witnessed being very rude and disrespectful to people several times, both over the phone and in the reception queue (including myself), all other interactions I have had with employees of the practice have been exemplary. I have been unfortunate over the past couple of years to require a steady stream of blood tests and medication advice in addition to GP consultations about co-morbidities I suffer from, and this in itself is debilitating to say the least. On one occasion, I was told that I could not see or speak with a doctor but that I could see an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, which I did. She was absolutely excellent, thorough and displayed a lot of empathy with my condition. When I have to have bloods taken regularly, the phlebotomist is invariably very pleasant and helpful, which reduces stress levels instantly in my case. When I'm lucky enough (If that's not an oxymoron) to see or speak with a doctor, they are always very attentive, caring and thorough, which they follow up with sound practical advice and prescriptions where necessary. When I have been to various hospitals for invasive procedures to be done, Oakham Medical Practice acknowledges receipt of letters from those institutions if there is anything they need to follow-up on, as soon as they get them. I am not interested in reading about the lack of services since the pandemic - it really is old news now - but I do sympathise with people trying to get appointments. That part of things is truly abysmal, but if the management staff employed could analyse the situation more professionally, I am sure they could come up with a good solution. Having said that, when I do get through to a receptionist they are invariably pleasant and helpful - clearly a lot of training has gone into this and it is paying off (with one exception as mentioned earlier). So, let's all give the doctors and their staff the support they need in order to support and care for us, remembering that we should all take a certain amount of responsibility for our own wellbeing.

  8. Review titled Useless

Rated 1 star out of 5

They are trying to reduce their official wait times by telling you there are no appointments available today - go elsewhere. On top of this the receptionists are plain rude. Quite frankly I may as well not have a registered GP - they have never once been able to help me.

  9. Review titled Can someone please explain the 'release' appointments system

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Jasper - Posted on 04 July 2023

Can someone please explain how the appointment system is supposed to work. I don't understand why appointments are 'released' each day, rather than being able to book in advance. It means rather than me waiting three weeks until the next available appointment, I'm just in limbo, unsure when I'm going to be able to book one, and spending more and more time either on the phone or on the app. I'd like to know as at the moment it feels like it's a way of reducing wait time statistics by shifting the wait time off the books of the surgery and in to the community where it can't be measured and therefore doesn't impact the surgery's performance review.

  10. Review titled Great Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Liam - Posted on 24 June 2023

I want to the walk in center at Oakham Hospital ran by Oakham MP and and I want to say a massive thank you. I turned up on the day no appointment spoke the the gentleman on reception and he booked me in. I only waited 5mins till I was seen. A new doctor who has only been there 6 weeks was amazing. He prescribed me medication sent it over and it was ready for me straight away. The doctor examined my wrist did some tests , informed me of a physio app and got a wrist support. He was so helpful and very knowledgeable. I can’t remember his name but want to do a massive thank you.
