Dear Mr Stewart I was sad to read your comments regarding the Bedwell Surgery not being able to see your grandson who was poorly. Whenever patients are required to be seen for their healthcare it is always advisable to go to their own GP where all the medical records are held and the GPs can get a full understanding of his/her general health, what medication they are on, if any, and if they have any allergies which is especially important if the GP is considering prescribing medication. We are of course able to see nonregistered patients as immediately necessary (if deemed appropriate) when they are staying out of the region and unable to return home generally because they are out of the county. However for any patients that are registered at local surgeries which we would consider areas of Letchworth, Hitchin, WGC, Baldock to be local, we would expect them to be taken to their registered GP to be treated. I am sorry you feel let down, but I hope you can understand our reasoning and very much hope your grandson has improved over the weekend and is back to his normal self.

  2. Review titled Positive first impressions

Rated 4 stars out of 5

A couple of weeks ago I decided to investigate changing to a different surgery as I was becoming increasingly disillusioned by the one I have been registered with since 2007. Two friends recommended Bedwell Surgery as being a caring, friendly Practice. I registered on Thursday 8th June. The receptionist was polite, friendly, and informative. She made me feel welcome straight away. I was given an appointment for a Health Check on Wednesday 14th June with a nurse. The nurse was again, polite, friendly, caring and informative. My BP was rather high so she suggested I checked it at home later on and call the surgery with the numbers later. When I eventually founded my BP monitor, it was too late in the day to phone. After 2 readings, last night and this morning, I decided to see if I might be lucky to have an appointment with a doctor today. I was phoned at 09.02 by a very pleasant doctor. Not only did we sort out a 7 day monitoring of my BP but after a short discussion about my general health, it was suggested I see the MSK practitioner and an appointment was made for Tuesday 27th June. I should like to thank everyone I've spoken to so far for their friendly, caring manner, for listening to me and for making me feel like a human being again instead of just a statistic.

  3. Review titled Ignored

I feel like both times when I have been to the doctors. I have been played down and made out as if I was lying. I constantly feels like I am being ignored and made to feel low. The amount of times of not wanted to come to the GP with anything, until it gets to the point where I have no choice.

  4. Review titled Horrible service

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have autism and extreme anxiety issues. My mother came to support me to this appoinment. Went to the Bedwell Medical Centre in Stevenage for a blood test and the nurse's attitude was bad. I'm highly scared of needles and I asked if we could do this differently, and she just said it'll hurt if you keep moving. My fear was going to make me scream but the nurse told me to keep quiet, basically. This nurse needs autism training as soon as possible and should understand the fears of how autistic people struggle with anxiety. Wouldn't recommend this service, and strongly advise others to keep a long look out for this service just in case.

Apologies for the delay in responding to you. I have been waiting for feedback from the phlebotomy team at the hospital and they have only just replied. I would first of all like to explain the phlebotomy team are not employed by the surgery. This service is provided by the hospital to enable patients to attend the surgery to have bloods taken. The phlebotomist in question does recall your appointment with her. She did mention it did not go well and feels you will be in a much better position attending the hospital to have bloods taken in future. The hospital have more resources that can help you have bloods taken and I very much hope your next experience is a better one. If you would like to discuss it with me further, please do not hesitate to give me a call at the surgery: Allison Seymour.

  5. Review titled Extremely poor service

Extremely unhelpful service. Long wait in the morning to get the “no” answer. This surgery will not give any help when you really need it. I am very disappointed at the service. I wish I didn’t register with them.

Dear Patient, I was sad to read you had a problem obtaining help from the surgery on the 1st December. Unfortunately as you have posted anonymously, I am unable to try and find out what the enquiry was to see if I can assist you or give an explanation. If you are able to call the surgery to discuss further, please ask for Mrs Seymour, Practice Manager. I would like to learn further what the problem was to see if any staff training is required or if we need to change any of our processes to improve patient experience. We do appreciate your feedback. Regards Mrs Seymour.

  6. Review titled Avoid

Been with this Surgery for many years. All trust and credibility lost due to unwarranted remarks they placed on medical system resulting in stonewalling of any medical help for not just myself but other members of Family I'm a carer for. We have not taken this decision lightly but have now made the steps in changing surgery's. You do not get help here unless you find some strength in fighting for medical help outside of the standard routine health checks. As a carer speaking on behalf for an individual that finds social settings unbearable is ignored and sadly criticism. Many times witnessed while in waiting area of patients leaving their appointments requested to reception staff to not be given an appointment to a certain GP over the years. Down to reception staff to charm patients down through being so distort in their experience with this GP all in attendance of waiting patients. Yet this individual GP is still there after years of witnessing this on both Surgery's they run. Sadly experienced and other members of the Family that this Surgery is poorly managed in being able to put notes on our medical system while unwilling to give the service that is required for those that do need general medical attention in complex heredity conditions. It is time to put our medical needs frist and foremost even if it means going private. All these problems have been experienced before the Pandemic.

  7. Review titled Made to wait only for no appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 June 2022

Have been up before 8 trying to get an appointment but am waiting for 30 mins only for them to say no appointments available and that I have to try again tomorrow, I've been on the phone to them 3 times in the past few days. I have symptoms that seem to be worsening but one of the receptions tried to down play my concerns and wasn't very willing to help at first until I pressed her about not being provided the adequate help. I was meant to be provided a link to send photos about my concerns after a inconvenience telephone appointment while I was at work where the doctor couldn't even hear what I was saying, was told to send photos but was never passed on an email link to send them over resulting in me calling again but a few days later. The receptionist then asked me why I hadn't got in touch sooner about the link but I think she failed to realise people have lives where they need to be at work and don't always have time to sit and wait for a call back. Now my symptom have worsened and I will most likely have to go to A&E which I don't want to do because its not something that's worthy of A&E but it's the only way I'll be seen by a doctor.
