  1. Review titled No masks

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 October 2022

Attended for our booster vaccines. Covid is still well & truly with us. Even if you can’t make attendees wear a face mask, it’s scandalous that the people administering the vaccines don’t wear a mask. We will be using services elsewhere in future.

Dear Anonymous, We follow the NHS guidelines regarding mask wearing but staff are happy to wear a mask if a patient request this. Patient Services Manager Alwoodley Medical Centre

  2. Review titled Poor appointment system

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 September 2022

The appointment system is poor in what is otherwise a good surgery. Last week I filled in a Triage form and said I wouldn't be available at a particular time this morning (due to another appointment). The surgery then left me 4 voice mails within 6 minutes telling me to "attend my phone", at the precise time I said I wouldn't be available?! I then called the surgery who said they'd check if I can be put back on this list, but there was no guarantee. So helpful and clear I'm sure you agree! The process is ridiculous and wastes valuable NHS and patient time. Expecting patients to cancel any commitments and sit around all day with their phone in their hand is a pretty arrogant and the surgery just say there's "nothing they can do" when you speak with them.

Dear Anonymous, I sorry that you did not receive a telephone call from the GP at the time you requested, the GP’s do try to phone patients at the time requested but due to the volume of calls they have to deal with this is not always possible. We do offer time slot appointments online that can be booked by patients using the NHS app or Patient Access app, these appointments are available to book from 8am, you can also book these appointments by calling the surgery from 8am. 3. Review titled Generaly a very good service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Ms s carvell - Posted on 22 July 2022

I called today with definite exacerbation of asthma. Spoke to receptionist. Was told no appointments available so I asked for rescue course of prednisolone. She told me she could not advise me or allow the prescription and that I should send an email to the practice. But it would most probably be after the weekend. This could be too late if this exacerbation got worse and I would have to attend A&E as urgent case. Not impressed with the way an asthma exacerbation has been handled. I am sure this should have had red flag message to clinicians.

Dear Ms Carvell, Thank you for your comments. I would like to apologise that the receptionist that spoke to you did not make it clear that we are unable to take medication requests over the phone, but by sending an online access medication request, email to our prescription email address or an e-consult that we would process the request as soon as possible. You submitted an urgent request for medication you required, and the GP issued the medication the same day and sent it electronically to your nominated pharmacy at 16:15, I do apologise that you were unaware that the medication was at the Chemist waiting for you to collect. I would also like to assure you that having investigated this matter, training has been given to the staff regarding your contact with the surgery. If you wish to discuss this matter any further, please contact me at the surgery. Patient Services Manager

  4. Review titled Impossible to book appts

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 July 2022

You cannot get an appt here. My app doesn’t work and they refuse to help (the helpline told me to talk to them). At 8am you cannot get through and make an appt at 5pm you cannot book an online consultation. I pay for this service through my NI contributions and feel severely ripped off. Avoid if you can and go elsewhere. I had my medication stopped as I needed an annual blood test but could neither book online or on the phone - eventually did and got some medication too but they are putting my health at risk. AVoid.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your comments, after speaking to you the technical issue that you were experiencing should now be resolved, the online access site is not run by Alwoodley Medical Centre, we are only able to grant you access to use this facility and to reset passwords and close / reinstate accounts. As I discussed with you, appointments will only show on the app when they become available to book. GP appointments are release every morning at 8am and will be available to book on the day but if you require a blood test appointment these can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance. If you have any further issues, please contact me at the surgery. Patient Services Manager

  5. Review titled Appointments

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 June 2022

Always seems a challenge to arrange an appointment especially for a routine appointment. Receptionists advise to call at 8am which is not always possible due to work and also because it is not an emergency, do not allow to book a pre-bookable appointment, so only option is an e-consult!

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your feedback, we understand that it is sometimes not possible for patients to wait in the call cue on a morning as you have stated e-consult is available to use but you may not be aware that if you have online access you can book appointments yourself through the app, there are face to face appointments and telephone appointments released every morning at 8am for patients to book themselves, if you do not have an online account you can apply for one through our website or call into the surgery to complete the form, you will also need proof of ID and proof of address in order to verify your identity. 6. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 June 2022

I filled out an online triage form on Monday just after 8am I was informed that I would have a telephone conversation the day after. I then received a call on Monday at 5pm a full 24hours before I was told I would be called. Issue resolved and prescription collected 30minutes later. An amazing team.
