  2. Review titled More chance of winning the Lottery than getting an Apt!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 February 2023

Each time I call the surgery to make an Dr apt, I either get told to call back at 8am the following morning or call back later in the day, do either and you hear a recording saying they have reached their capacity for the day. The online consultation/triage has been closed due to reaching capacity for the day! The staff themselves are incredible, the issue is there are too many patients!! We need the 2nd surgery back in Alwoodley

Dear Anonymous, I am sorry that you have had issues booking an appointment at the surgery by phone and by using the online consultation service. If you have the NHS app or Patient access app you can book GP appointments using the app, the appointments become available at 8am daily. If you do not have either of these apps and would like help setting one up, our staff will be happy to help you. We do review our appointment system and look at ways to improve the service. Thank you for your comments I will feed these back to our team. Patient Services Manager Alwoodley Medical Centre

  3. Review titled Excellent Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pat Joyce - Posted on 14 February 2023

I sent a message on the Triage on Monday morning for a painful but non-urgent condition. On Tuesday morning I received a phone call from a Doctor who arranged an appointment for two hours later at the surgery. The Doctor who I met was very thorough and arranged a blood test and x-ray. Everything was completed by 2 pm including going to Chapel Allerton. Every person I came into contact with - Doctors, Receptionists and Nurse were very pleasant and helpful. I could not have had better treatment if I had paid for it. I have always found Alwoodley Medical Centre helpful and efficient.

  4. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The GP who saw my son was incredibly caring and thorough with the medical attention he provided. He kept me and my husband updated and also ensured my 12 year old understood and spoke respectfully to him.

  5. Review titled Impossible to get a booking

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mr Michael Gardner - Posted on 27 January 2023

After phoning up at 8.00 am for "limited amount of Booking slots" always engaged, then told all slots are full. Then told to book online. tried to book online then told online not available due to a Shortage of Admin Staff. Had to go to A&E which is taking valuable resources from the NHS because the Alwoodley Medical Centre are not interested in seeing patients or in patient care. There is no covid excuse now for continuing with a failing booking in system, for failing to have enough admin staff and for failing to see patients which the practice are receiving money for. Please look at all the reviews which are saying the same thing, the booking system needs to change. My treatment may not be urgent and needed the same day and take up a slot that an urgent patient may need.

Dear Mr Gardner, Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to hear that you have had an issue booking an appointment at the practice. The practice always sees as many patients as is clinically safe to do so every day. As demand fluctuates daily the telephone lines can be busy, at busy times all our admin team answer the phones to ensure the calls are answered as quickly as possible. Because the lines can be busy, we offer alternative ways of booking appointments. GP appointments are available to book from 8am daily for routine or urgent matters, either by using the NHS app/Patient access app, telephoning the surgery or by coming into reception, you can also use our Econsult service available on our website. If you prefer a weekend appointment, we also have appointments available at Rutland Lodge. Please contact me at the surgery if you would like to discuss this matter further or if you need any further information. Yours Sincerely Patient Services Manager Alwoodley Medical Centre

  6. Review titled Excellence and a model of expert care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Marianne Dee - Posted on 21 January 2023

My mother reached 100 last year and has been part of this practice for the last 15 or so years. I have never seen or experienced such joined-up care, consideration, and support in my 69 years with various medical centres, across the u.k. and Yorkshire. The doctors and the Community Nursing Team were outstanding in their health care, and support for, my mum's independence, allowing her to stay in her own home till she went into a hospice 5 days before she died. The community team liaised with the hospice on her behalf and was open and empathetic throughout. Not only was their clinical and health support brilliant but also their approach to her as an individual. They showed her respect and built up a relationship with her which uplifted her mentally thus maintaining both her mental and physical needs. I was often present when they visited and witnessed a most impressive array of caring, thoughtful, and kind professionals. My great hope would be that this relationship-based and interagency approach is rolled out as good practice across Leeds. Personally, I would consider moving house to register with these amazing people, and I am very happy to give specific evidence to back up this review.

  7. Review titled Not enough staff or doctors

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Carl - Posted on 08 December 2022

This may be common amongst other practices but the constant battle to make an appointment is ridiculous. Constant text messages from the surgery saying due to staff shortages, they can only deal with urgent matters. Impossible to book an appointment. Unable to speak with a receptionist. Too many patients for the number of staff. Time to change to a better surgery.

Dear Carl, I am sorry to hear that you have had difficulties in arranging an appointment. Although our phone lines can be very busy in the morning all available staff are answering the phones. If you prefer not to call the surgery, you can book GP appointments online by using the NHS or Patient Access app, the appointments are available to book from 8am every day. Unfortunately, occasionally we do have staff sickness and we are not always able to obtain last minute cover for GP’s. When this situation arises, we are unable to see as many patients safely and on these occasions we have tried to keep patients informed of the situation by sending text messages. 8. Review titled Cancer triaging

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Georgina - Posted on 24 November 2022

For a couple of weeks, my partner hasn’t managed to get a GP appointment for the growing lump on his hand. So with increasing concern he went to a private clinic in Leeds. He was sent for an X ray and then an MRI and the conclusion is it’s a tumour. He now needs a referral to the Sarcoma MDT in Leeds however we still can’t get a GP appointment to do this urgent referral. We have finally managed to send the scan and reports through to them (receptionists couldn’t locate them for a while) but have been told no doctors are available but a doctor would be available next week. She then said we should call back again tomorrow to see if any are free. This is hugely stressful given the tumour is likely to be cancerous and we need to move as quickly as we can. My partner was also met with a great lack of empathy and understanding from the receptionist. I work very closely with the NHS so I understand the huge pressures staff are under but the process for a potential cancer patient has been utterly appalling and extremely upsetting. He hasn’t seen a GP in years and is not a strain on the system, but the lack of regard and help has been truly astounding. The process has surprised me as generally the practice he always been flexible when it’s with regards to my children.

Dear Georgina, Firstly, I would like to say that we take possible diagnose of cancer as a serious and urgent matter and so I am very sorry to hear that you have found it difficult to make an appointment with a GP for your partner. I would also like to apologise for any stress or upset caused and the fact that you were not satisfied with the level of service provided by the practice, as you state the process has surprised you as generally the practice has always been flexible with regards to your children. We do offer same day appointments that can be booked online by a patient through the NHS App or Patient Access from 8am, patients can also use our E-consultation service which can be found on our website as an alternative to calling the practice. As I do not have the details of the patient this relates to, I am unable to investigate this but if you would like to contact me at the surgery, I will certainly investigate this matter. 10. Review titled No masks

Rated 1 star out of 5

Attended for our booster vaccines. Covid is still well & truly with us. Even if you can’t make attendees wear a face mask, it’s scandalous that the people administering the vaccines don’t wear a mask. We will be using services elsewhere in future.
