  1. Review titled An excellent Phelbotomist

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by H Smith - Posted on 13 March 2024

I have to have regular blood tests for a chronic condition. It can take as many as three visits to my GP surgery to get one complete set of results, and it can be immensely trying just to get through on the 'phone, to book a test (or the extra tests because they have failed to ask for the right ones originally). I often leave looking and feeling like a pincushion where they sweep the needle and 'try my hands'. Achieving correct bloods had started to dominate my life and made me miserable. Thankfully, I discovered that there is a bookable online, often with appointments for the same or next day, in Bodmin CDC. I have now had bloods taken by the same Phlebotomist there twice and it is such a different experience to my GP surgery that I feel compelled to write in praise. It is a shame that his name cannot be mentioned here but he is punctual, kind and staggeringly efficient. He greets me warmly, hits a vein straightaway, is all ready to collect the correct bloods and ...that's it - I can forget about it. It probably sounds like a small thing but an excellent clinician when you have been subjected to such poor phlebotomy for so long, is a massive relief and I hope that his Superiors value him as much as I do!

  2. Review titled Phenomenal care, and incredibly clean. Very efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Dominic Wilkes - Posted on 18 March 2024

I fell and injured my hand. I turned up, was seen instantly, by lovely staff. The Minor Injuries nurse who saw me, and the radiographer were just lovely people, carrying out their jobs with efficiency, dignity, friendliness and care. The whole place was spotless too! After care was also brilliant with a call on the Monday after visiting on the Saturday, with a follow-up conversation. NHS at its best. I cannot fault Bodmin. Thank you so much!

  3. Review titled Extremely good treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had fall on 20 Feb which left me with head wound. The treatment I received at MIU was superb, very thorough, caring and I was able to have a CT scan at Bodmin rather than going to Treliske. Am very grateful.

  4. Review titled MIU staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had to take my husband to the MIU on the afternoon of 29.1.24 following a fall. Whilst waiting to be seen by Triage he felt unwell and was quickly taken straight in to the treatment area. The nursing staff that looked after him were amazing, swiftly giving him the care that he needed. Apologies if we caused a backlog but he has recovered well. Thank you so much to all of you.

  5. Review titled Amazing place

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the Minor Injury Unit on Saturday late afternoon for what I was hoping was just a sprained wrist obtained snowboarding. Every member of staff I encountered was professional, friendly and knowledgeable within their role. Throughout my visit I was treated with dignity and respect. I was impressed with how efficient both the unit and the professionals were, with very short waiting times. Unfortunately I had fractured my radius and potentially scaphoid, which was a shock, but the nurse and nurse practitioner, were so calm and reassuring, I knew I was in the best hands possible. I was giving great care instructions and follow on advice and information. Thank you everyone so much for your amazing care.

  6. Review titled Fracture clinic chaos

by PumpkinPie - Posted on 12 January 2024

The process of sending patients from the fracture clinic, to X Ray, to casting needs to be reviewed. it's absolutely chaotic. Sadly my son was in accident and broke a bone. We live in Truro and had to go all the way up to Bodmin Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) as it was the only MIU open late with an x ray machine (ridiculous distance to travel!) Anyway, first problem was the Consultant arriving 25 mins after our actual appointment was booked for. We saw him casually cycle in. Secondly, thirdly and fourthly- we were sent to the wrong x ray machine twice, had to walk all the way back to fracture clinic twice and then back to the correct x ray machine twice (the one downstairs) No communication, no apologies, no care taken to arrive at their jobs on time. Just absolute chaos. My final issue was the X Ray department - the paediatric waiting room was full and overflowing with elderly patients on trolley beds waiting for their X Rays. Several were being intermittently checked that they were still breathing while we waited. This cannot be normal. Surely if an elderly person falls who is dangerously frail - there needs to be a separate process for these extremely vulnerable people. (E.g. one X Ray room was empty!) The nurses in Fracture Clinic were very good and clearly frustrated too

  7. Review titled The whole process was so smooth

    by River-nurse - Posted on 22 September 2023

I needed a chest x-ray and was referred by my GP to Bodmin Community Hospital. When I phoned to ask about my appointment I was given a next day cancellation appointment by a very helpful clerk. I was seen on time, the whole process was so smooth and I was treated with such kindness that I wanted to say a public thank you.

We are pleased to hear you had the care and treatment that would be expected and hope you are improving. The X-ray department is manned by staff members of the Royal Cornwall hospital Trust. We will pass this feedback onto them to cascade to the staff members.

  8. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue Udy - Posted on 18 September 2023

I visited the Minor Injuries Unit 2 weeks ago with my 91 year old Father, after he’d had a fall in the shower and injured his knee badly. He was treated with extreme kindness and respect from the moment we arrived. Everyone was wonderful, the nursing staff, the radiographer and in particular, the clinician, who recommended ice packs, exercises and a respite stay with us. He has made a full recovery and due to the exercises, has more movement in his knee than he had previously and he has just gone home. Can’t thank everyone enough.

  9. Review titled Impressive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pamela Griffiths - Posted on 13 August 2023

I would like to convey my grateful thanks to the team on duty in MIU on the morning of August 6th who cared for me following a fall, resulting in a fractured wrist. Unfortunately this injury required manipulation which I understand can be performed at Bodmin but not on Sunday! The care was exemplary and both my daughter and myself were treated with compassion by friendly caring professionals.Referral to Derriford was arranged which I am sure helped to reduce the waiting time for the care delivered there. Well done Bodmin and thank you.

  10. Review titled Good humour with great care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 August 2023

I attended today as I hurt my ankle. There was a bit of a wait to see the nurse but from the moment I got seen to the moment I left , I can’t fault the people who helped me. A quick decision to get an X-ray , lovely woman doing the X-rays , clear description of the break from the helpful nurse, friendly advice from all - they made a difficult situation feel human. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of care. I am pleased to hear it was a positive one. We can only apologise for delays, in some environments it can be difficult to predict the wait times due to the unpredictable nature of attendance. I will be happy to share your positive experience with the team.
