  1. Review titled Brilliant care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Beth - Posted on 28 December 2023

This centre is amazing... their staff are all incredibly motivated and knowledgeable. Their cohesion as a team is, honestly, like a well oiled machine. I've always had a problem with feeling safe anywhere, and its amazing finding somewhere you actually believe yourself to be as safe as houses. That sounds daft, but it's really important to me. I trust that if me being here is adding anything to the search for cures or diagnosis then that has fulfilled my reason for being here. I sincerely try to be useful in life, and I really hope this is being useful, also making me feel like an entirely new person from an important point of view for me, this treatment is astonishingly efficient, I would really like to hear more about what is being removed during the plasma exchange, only to give me sn idea of how it might be useful for someone else. I honestly can't understand that if something isn't good for one person, then it can't be good for everyone else. I'm being sensible with this though, believe me, because I 100% believe that the work is anonymous. Thank you Chavasse Ward, and all the staff who sail in her... Happy New 2024... its gonna be a stonker...xxx

  2. Review titled Incredibly caring and proficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

For nearly a year I have been very worried about needing an embolisation to attempt to seal a dural venous arterial fistula. I was admitted for the procedure and was anxious, as a previous admission had resulted in a cancellation, due to an emergency. The team were very reassuring that this second attempt would go ahead, and I was relieved when I was sent for earlier than expected. Everyone who dealt with me was kind, professional and extremely caring. I was kept very calm and relaxed, which made everything less stressful. The team met me before the procedure and checked that I understood what would happen. In the recovery room the nurse was very helpful and phoned my husband to tell him that all had gone well. Back on Dott ward the staff were wonderful. They fully understood my needs and carried out all their observations quietly and efficiently. From the student nurses to the senior staff, they really couldn’t have looked after me better. The day after the procedure the consultant told me that the embolisation appears to have been a complete success, which is amazingly good news as they had warned me that they might not be able to fully seal the fistula. I was given excellent discharge advice, and the staff were very helpful about giving me ample time to contact my husband, as we live some distance from the hospital. My only small criticism is that nobody seems to be answering the phone. As I was feeling very unwell immediately after the procedure I turned my phone to silent. My husband had been trying to get an update on my progress but couldn’t speak to anyone. On the other hand, I totally understand that the high level of care that we, the patients, received might mean not answering phone calls which would distract from nursing responsibilities. To conclude, how incredibly fortunate are we to have access to such dedicated and competent neurological services? I cannot thank the staff and hospital enough. You are amazing.

  3. Review titled Experienced cared, just a shame about the nhs

Waited a year for a referral for my headaches after a hospital admission last year. Doctor I saw from the Walton Centre was very professional and gave me multiple choices to help combat them. That's all I needed. It's taken a whole year to get this appointment, gp had been prescribing medications that weren't helpful for that entire time. What on earth has happened to the NHS that appointments are taking that long?

  5. Review titled Really disappointed

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My grandad has hospital for 2 weeks now and his operation has been postponed every single day even though he is top priority. I am so disappointed the day he was supposed to be going in for a stent fitted and us waiting for a call to see if the procedure went ok stressing waiting for the call to see if he’s ok only for us having to ring them to find out it’s been delayed again and has had no visitors as we were told he wouldn’t be on the ward. I am saddened by the experience and not being informed about someone so special to us. No updates, no communication and no respect or empathy for our family our our family member in the hospital.

  6. Review titled Excellent patient care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Following lumbar decompression surgery, I’d just like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. From the admin staff, nursing staff and surgical staff, you were all amazing and the care I received was second to none. Always informed, greeted by a friendly face, reassured, nothing was too much trouble. In an often thankless job, I’d just like everyone to know how thankful I am. For giving me the best patient experience. I’m very grateful to each and every one of you for what you did for me. You should be proud of the team you have at Walton Neuro.

  8. Review titled Wonderful neurological nurse

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jakki - Posted on 01 June 2023

I am currently under the care of the neurological department of the Walton Centre. I was feeling rather lost and overwhelmed because, whilst the consultant has been extremely competent and has very clearly explained my condition and the proposed treatment, I simply needed to talk to someone who understood. I phoned and left a message for the nurse, who then phoned me back, later in the day. Speaking with her was such a relief. She totally understood my state of mind and clearly addressed all my concerns and queries. She took me, step by step, through the dos and don’ts, and explained any warning signs of which I should be aware. Before ending the conversation she summarised the advice, and told me that she had emailed the consultant. She then phoned me back, almost immediately, to tell me that she had spoken with the consultant and a date was now being set for my procedure. Sure enough, the following day I was given a date and further information. Then, this kind nurse followed up the phone call with a letter, summarising our conversation. I am both impressed and immensely grateful.

  10. Review titled 'worrying aftercare'

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 November 2023

March 23 I was admitted for major spinal surgery - wasn't well on being discharged and made my feelings known - when home experienced a major spinal leak and was very poorly and re admitted and spent a further ten days or so in the walton centre - making slow progress to date with major pain when walking and in pelvic and hips area. Had an MRI scan and recently a CT scan both done at the walton centre apart from phone call or video link never had a face to face with consultant which in my view after such major surgery worrying especially as i am still not well. Held out for a face to face for results of ct scan and to be able to update surgeon as to my current state - was given a date of pm 28th November 23 and today this appointment cancelled {24th November} and fresh appointment face to face of March 2024 roughly twelve months from date of procedure not to mention the results of the ct scan will be on the same day roughly 6 months after the event - to me this is not acceptable after such major surgery - whether surgery successful or not the follow procedures totally un acceptable does no one correlate the dates of examination or scans to when the patient will be told the results!!! Have today spoken with medical secretary very apologetic but no explanation given - looks like i will have to have a video call in December or wait till March 2024 not a happy bunny!!
