  1. Review titled Reassuring, friendly, comforting and good service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was taken to hospital for an appendicitis. I was expedited straight to the surgical assessment unit (sau) by my local GP and was admitted. From the moment I arrived every single person was friendly, helpful and comforting. The consultant and registrar were again very reassuring and personal too. Despite a number of emergencies delaying my op, the registrar still managed to get me into theatre and everything went well. I cannot compliment the level of competence, attitude and kindness of all staff from the ward hosts, nurses, all the way up to the consultants and anaesthetists. It was my first operation and they made me feel safe and comfortable. Thank you to everyone there.

  2. Review titled Full of praise for the service and attention

Rated 4 stars out of 5

My mother was 5 days in Hockley Ward, after 1 day in AMU ward, and, yes, a 12 hour wait in A&E, but we were delighted with the care and attention given in all 3 sections of the hospital. I know many people have bad experiences with the NHS, but in our case, the staff were very friendly and attentive, caring, scrupulous regarding possibility of infection, helpful and patient, even with long shifts. Even the food was good! A bit bland maybe, but she could season to her taste. In all, she, my father and I cannot fault how she was treated during her time in the hospital. I hope this review reaches the staff concerned, so they can see their work is much appreciated. Thank you for everything.

  3. Review titled Excellent experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My daughter was recently admitted with flare up of ulcerative colitis (2nd time) and had again excellent care and treatment. Nursing staff so kind and caring and understanding of her frustration about being in hospital as a young person who was due to go on holiday. Treatment plan fully explained from attending A and E and being admitted. Allowed volunteer with therapy dog for a visit to her room which really cheered her up. Both myself and my daughter have had a few admissions over the last few years and i cannot fault the hospital. They are efficient, patient focused, and there is such a sense of care and understanding for the individual which goes a long way to reassuring people at their most vulnerable. I work as a volunteer for the hospital myself and proud and privileged to be a part of it. My sincere thanks and respect for all of the doctors, nurses and other staff. Lucky to have such an excellent hospital on our doorstep.

I attended the paediatric A&E department with my Daughter this morning and wanted to review the wonderful service we received. All staff were so lovely and obviously working very hard. We were seen in a timely manner and looked after well. Thank you to all the staff working in this department this morning!

  5. Review titled Terrible parking

Rated 1 star out of 5

If you have to visit Southend hospital you might want to think twice and try and go to another hospital as all the roads around there are permit holders only and the car park is almost always full and many folk just riding around hoping for a space. I got to the hospital today over 30mins before my appointment and had to miss it due to no spaces becoming available. Many of the resident only spaces didn't have cars parked in them as most of the residence have driveways.

I had my first mammogram this morning. I was so scared and nervous. A lovely lady carried out my mammogram she was really gentle and talked me through all of the steps putting me at ease. She is a real asset to the NHS

  7. Review titled Horrible Experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

They seem to have moved A&E from a fairly spacious seating area to a cramped side entrance with little seating- on entering with my sick daughter went were confronted with a packed room with many people sitting on the floor - it ooked like something from a third world country. There is no signage for the moved A&E and staff were rude and unhelpful. We waited 5 hours to see a doctor who eventuallynsaw us in an unused toilet! I've had nothing but bad experiences at this hospital for myself and members of my family and would not go back in for any operation. I feel its truly unsafe

  8. Review titled Timely treatment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

My husband is undergoing chemotherapy for stage 4 cancer. Last Saturday he developed a high temperature and was advised to go to the accident and emergency department. On arrival it took about 20 minutes to be triaged but following triage we were taken through to a private room in majors where he was seen promptly by a senior doctor. The doctor prescribed intravenous antibiotics, a nurse did the cannulation and then administered the antibiotics and took bloods. My husband had a chest x Ray and urine test performed. After the blood results he was discharged with oral antibiotics. We were very impressed with the care we received.

I approached the conversation intending to get some guidance I was met with rude and snappy receptionist at the Oral Surgery team on 19.03.2024 14:00pm. I am disgusted and appalled at the rudeness.

I brought my mother in having had a nasty fall. Apart from checking in, which involved a long standing queue, the service was good with very kind staff.
