Once I got passed the receptionist who was cold and not very inviting, the CT scan staff where amazing 🤩. They made it so easy and comfortable visit. The hospital is clean, and I would definitely recommend it to other people

  2. Review titled 4 hr stay / Lacking in standard of care

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Was waiting an hour to be triaged and a further 3 hours to be treated When total wait had exceeded 4 hours I approached a member of staff. Staff appeared angry frustrated and tired and this was then directed at patients in their tone and manner. The treatment was also lacking sent for an infected wound I was sent home with a pack of antibiotics and told to dress it myself! Not impressed after all that time. The hospital has no neurodiverse policy and the environment is very artificially lit and for long periods this wears you down. The waiting area appeared run down and in the 4 hours I was there I did not see one member of cleaning staff. I left feeling worse than I arrived.

Went in with a sore throat and health anxiety. It wasn't a long wait, and the nurse was exceptionally kind and reassuring. Thank you so much.

  4. Review titled Missed opportunity

I visited the Urgent Review Centre on a Saturday morning after being advised to do so by the 111 online facility. The staff were friendly and the wait was not too long. However, the advice I was given was to ring my GP surgery on Monday about my swollen leg. I should have been given a blood test to check for a blood clot. It meant it wasn't diagnosed properly for a week and I could have started blood thinner medication several days earlier.

  6. Review titled Bad telephone/customer service manner

    by anit21 - Posted on 04 January 2024

I recently had a hospital appointment booked. I awoke with a cold and losing my voice so decided to call the hospital to enquire if it would be acceptable to attend the hospital. The response I got from a the member of staff I spoke to was - this is a hospital, it's full of sick people, so I don't see why not. I politely thanked them for their help and rang off. But I was furious! This member of staff made me feel stupid and their attitude was not acceptable. I feel they need some customer service training.

  7. Review titled Professional and efficient practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended Newton Abbot UTC on Wednesday morning 25 October 2023 with a suspected fracture of my arm and was most impressed with the reception and treatment given by the nurse practitioners on duty and their xray colleagues. It was professional, efficient and caring and I felt I was in very good hands. I would like to thank them very much for all they did.

  8. Review titled Excellent care late in the evening

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Having contacted 111 as tested positive for Covid and was having trouble breathing and classed as a vulnerable patient, they organised an appointment at 8.15pm at the UTC, Newton Abbot, where I was given a full and thorough assessment by a wonderful doctor. I had asked for antiviral medication to try to offset long covid as current condition is already difficult to cope with. Doctor advised he could not prescribe at Newton Abbot and was told to go to Torbay A & E. Arrived at Torbay to a packed waiting room. Was told I had to be assessed and triaged again, even though I had already undergone a full examination/triage at Newton Abbot. Was not happy that I was told to sit and wait in the waiting room due to being contagious (no one was wearing masks) so sat in the outer door area with the entrance door opening and closing every few minutes. I waited from 9.15pm on Tuesday to 4.45am on Wednesday the next day (7 hrs 45,mins) to be told I was not eligible for the antiviral medication, this question could have been put to a doctor on my arrival and settled almost immediately, the effects on my health were extreme as I already suffer with a long term chronic condition with fatigue being a major factor. Both my wife and I were exhausted by the end of this ordeal. Why must a patient be assessed/triaged twice, paperwork was handed over at our arrival, which if it had been looked at could have saved all those wasted hours and not in fact have caused me to become sicker than I already was. Disappointed in the whole process that needs to be looked into. UTC Newton Abbot should have been able to make a decision and/or prescribed the antiviral medication. With the increase in COVID cases now rising, implementation of masks should be reinstated.

  9. Review titled Wonderful service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I asked for a hearing test from my GP last year and was told I could wait for ages or get referred to Specsavers who I chose. The test was absolutely hopeless as it was fine in a noisy environment and I was told I didn't need heating aids. I went back to my GP and asked for an appointment with the NHS and after a long wait got seen by great staff at newton abbot who tested my ears and fitted me with hearing aids. Very satisfied and won't bother with Specsavers any more! It is terrible that tax payers money is being wasted on private suppliers who cannot provide a decent service. Invest in our NHS!
