  1. Review titled Brilliant A&E Experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 April 2024

I attended Yeovil A&E and cannot fault the service received. I was seen quickly, treated with kindness and politeness at all times. The staff were exceptional and overall made a stressful and frightening experience as good as it could be.

  2. Review titled Cannula left in situ

Rated 1 star out of 5

Having spent a fruitless 7 hours in Yeovil ACU today (referred for a liver scan by GPs but not given one) my 90 year old dementia cancer and Af diagnosed mother was sent home to my care with a cannula still in her arm. Noted when we got home and I went to GPs to get it removed.

  3. Review titled AEC - designed to be worse than A and E (but better metrics)

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Phillips Rob - Posted on 05 April 2024

Currently sitting in ACE having had my 90’year old mother referred here via our excellent GPs for an urgent liver scan as bloods and skin colour indicate severe liver failure. Triage happened and as she is deemed stable we are now in our 3 rd hour with no updates unless I dare to approach a very tetchy nurse. Apparently not awaiting a liver scan as advised by GPs but awaiting a consultant when one is free. She’s AF, severe dementia, breast cancer and I can’t even leave her to get her some food. ACE is clearly a weak and lazy way to get A&E quiet.

  4. Review titled Very poor communicate

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Les Phillips - Posted on 12 April 2024

I spent 7 days on a bed in a corridor where staff are up and down which is not suitable in eau. I finally got on a ward and another 3 weeks before I got the tests on my heart and lungs. The staff are amazing but the way the actual system is ringing is useless. I was given different information about my diagnosis from so many different doctors which is confusing at the best. When I finally got to be discharged I spent 3 and half hours in the discharge lounge waiting for my medication which just about finished an awful time in Yeovil hospital. I will confirm that the staff everywhere in Yeovil hospital are tremendous and do an excellent job in very difficult conditions

  5. Review titled Professional and caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My mother was treated with care and respect by the staff team during her treatment in A&E and AAU. Many of the staff are young and so friendly and supportive. They are a credit to the hospital.

  6. Review titled Receptionist face needs fixing

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Think you need to train your receptionist on how to deal with the general public. She was rude to myself on arrival, face like a slapped bottom, rude and just generally unpleasant. Overheard her being rude to everyone she booked in and walked around like she owned the place. Doctors, nurses and everyone inbetween were amazing, but this one receptionist must think she is something special. Train your staff!! No experience or empathy with mental health. No wonder there are so many people with Mental health in hospital that react to staff when you have people like her booking people in.

  7. Review titled Unwelcomed

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I tried to get a doctors appointment and tried to see a pharmasist at my local boots store. No one would see me and everyone told me I have to go to a and e. Everyone being 111 call, Preston Grove Medical Center, Boots and Superdrug. I arrived at YDH a and e and was told why have they sent you here and made me feel very stupid and that I shouldn't be here. Mythed how people are supposed to be seen these days! Next time I experience symptoms I'll try and ignore it as no one actually seems to care and I just feel like a nusense. Crazy how much tax I pay considering if I call the police no one shows up, ambulance doesn't bother to come out if your still breathing and I can never seem to get an appointment with either a doctor or dentist. What does my tax go towards exactly?!?! Our NHS service is a joke and this needs sorting out! It's not the staff at fault but the recourses which are given to them from higher up is not good enough!! Awful experience and I hate to think how many youngsters aren't getting proper diagnosis until it's too late, in 10 years time there's going to be a lot of health problems which were never listened to or acted upon seriously.

  8. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

On time, very caring and friendly staff, attentive and professional. The procedure was not straight forward due to the pacemaker which did not allow using some instruments. Very competent endoscopist didnt rush, making sure i was as comfortable as possible. Staff assisting, very supportive. Very impressed by consistant high level of competence. It was my second visit to Yeovil Hospital, the 1st being the pacemaker check up in Cardiology in Summer 2023. There as well, no waiting, excellent team.

  9. Review titled EAU experience

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 February 2024

I cannot fault the staff and treatment I received from AAU however being on EAU for 3 nights is nothing short of horrific. I myself am very unwell yet day and night the comings and goings of new patients, the noise and disturbance is relentless with no regard for the well-being of other patients. Could new patients not be booked in, questions asked and settled before taking them to a bay so as theres as little disruption to other patients already there. There is no noticeable air exchange in the bays as the smells on some occasions were noxious making it a very unpleasant place to try to sleep and recover. I appreciate the staff are overstretched and doing their best but please have some sympathy for those of us who are also very unwell but not needing as much support. My other issue is only 1 toilet available per bay and no others unless walking some distance to another bay which may also not be available, this is not acceptable when some patients have urgent need and waiting is not an option, it is demoralising. This is being typed at 01.06 after hours of disturbance and zero chance of resting or sleeping plus the smell currently in my bay is disgusting.

  10. Review titled Poor communication from surgical team after operation

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 February 2024

Arrived on ward 10 at 7:45am as requested. Went to nurse station to check in, nurses seemed miserable and not welcoming. After handover, nurses were friendly and could not fault them. Spoke to surgical team at 8:15am who said a prescription would be done for strong painkillers etc for discharge. Daughter had surgical procedure at 12ish, back on ward before 1pm. Daughter was offered small tub of ice cream and a drink. Few hours (4 in total) passed and no more food was offered. Daughter was starving as been nil by mouth since evening before. Nurse said they were chasing discharge letter and then we could go. I mentioned about medication that was agreed by surgical team. Nurse knew nothing about it and attempted to contact surgical team. Surgical team had gone home. Seems like there is no process to check that surgical team have completed everything before going home or if their input is required for prescriptions etc. Nurse had to then track down another dr to write prescription. This also took time. Eventually I was provided with prescription which I had to collect from outpatient pharmacy before they closed. My daughter was still on the ward and had not been discharged, yet I had to collect prescription medication. This took another 30 min wait. Also no one from surgical team spoke to us after the operation where I would have asked questions about how well the surgery went. A complete lack of communication after surgery, lack of food after surgery and surgical team going home without completing tasks or ensuring the at everything was done to enable patients to go home.
