Viewing test results - NHS App help

You can use the NHS App to view results for tests you’ve had at your GP surgery, or tests ordered by your GP surgery carried out at a hospital. You may also have limited access to hospital-ordered test results through the Patients Know Best (PKB) service.

Information:

We've updated the NHS App to make it easier to use. If you're still using the old version of the app, you'll find test results by selecting GP health record on the home screen.

Find out what's new in the NHS App

To view your GP-ordered test results if you do not have PKB:

  1. Select Test results.
  2. Read through the important notice about sensitive information you may see in your test results and select continue.

To view your test results if you have PKB:

  1. Select Test results.
  2. Select either GP-ordered test results or Hospital-ordered test results.
  3. Read through the important notice and select Continue.

In your GP-ordered test results page you can see results for tests such as:

  • blood tests
  • urine tests
  • tissue biopsies

Test results are reviewed by a healthcare professional and usually available within a few days. More complex tests may take a few weeks. Your healthcare professional should wait to release a test result in the NHS App if they need to discuss it with you first.

You may see test results in your record that your healthcare professional has not yet discussed with you. Contact your GP if you have any concerns.

You can speak to your surgery if you would rather not have access to your health record in your NHS App, or would like to have certain test results hidden.

Accessing historic test results

If a test was carried out before October 2023, it may not appear automatically in your NHS App. Contact your GP surgery to request access to older test results.
Your GP surgery may not make some tests available if releasing the information would:

  • cause serious harm to your physical or mental health
  • identify a third party who has not given consent

Test results unavailable in the NHS App

Not all test results are available through the NHS App. If you cannot see a test result in your app, it may be because:

  • it was ordered by your hospital but may be available through PKB
  • you had it done privately
  • it was a maternity check or test

Some hospitals have their own apps where you can check test results. Speak to your hospital for more information.

Tracking your test results over time

Some users can track the history of results for specific tests as a line graph and a list.

To access the result history for a specific test from your test results screen:

  1. Select the specific test result you want to view.
  2. Navigate to Your result section of the page.
  3. Select View test result history.

A graph will only be available if the same test has been done at least twice in the past 3 years and contains a reference range.

This feature is not available for all users, it depends on your GP surgery.

Downloading your test results

It is not possible to download your test results from the NHS App. Contact your GP surgery if you need a copy of your test results or health record.

Incorrect information in your test results

If any information in your test results is incorrect, contact your GP surgery.
