GP Extended Access has moved from Gosport War Memorial Hospital
On the 1st June 2019, Southern Hampshire Primary Care Alliance went live with a new streamlined service for patients in the Fareham and Gosport and South East Hampshire CCG areas. The Integrated Primary Care Access Service includes pre-bookable GP extended access appointments as well as urgent and acute out of hours GP and Acute Practitioner appointments, thereby improving access to NHS primary care with appointments outside of core GP Practice working hours. This is particularly useful for people workers with little flexibility and for patients who need to an out-of-hours appointment with a GP or other health care professional.
Centralised hubs located in Fareham, Gosport, Portchester, Waterlooville and Petersfield operate on different days and times each week. In response to local patient and stakeholder feedback, a further hub is being trialled in Bordon from the 1st of August.
IPCAS is not a walk-in service.
Pre-booked and urgent ‘out-of-hours’ appointments to see a GP (or other Health Care Professional) at a hub are arranged through the patient’s GP Practice. Outside of Practice opening hours, patients who call the 111 Service may be given advice, or called back for an assessment with a clinician. Patients may then be referred for an acute hub appointment on the day. The integrated nature of the service ensures that if a patient has been assessed by the 111 Service as medically unable to attend a hub, an out-of-hours home visit can be arranged as an alternative to a hospital visit.
