  1. Review titled An increasingly unacceptable level of care

by adly - Posted on 27 October 2022

I have been both a service user and carer of a service user of the Sunderland IRS service for some time. The level of care has never been great, ranging from dangerous to passable, which I mention to highlight that problems don’t stem from NHS struggles due to COVID-19, etc. but are much more long term.I’ve dealt with referrals being lost or not followed up, which remains an outstanding issue. This appears to be due to referrals going via existing care teams, who don't appear to do anything with it unless you’re constantly chasing or checking on progress. I fear for those without an advocate or unable to manage as I’ve no doubt their referrals would simply fall through the cracks. In the event you’re lucky enough to have a CPN, you at best have to deal with what appears to be an under qualified individual doing everything they can to help with limited resources, or at worst a rude and patronising individual whose only contribution in my experience to your health is to worsen it. Access to more qualified individuals, regardless of how complex your needs or history, occurs rarely if extremely lucky but generally simply doesn’t occur. My personal recent experience left me with the realisation this service, despite what individual staff members may claim, simply doesn’t seem to care, and the current NHS struggles are a convenient excuse. I’ve no doubt some staff members are doing their utmost in difficult circumstances, but it’s clear patients have become a dismissible number for most. My view is that certain long-term staff members continue to have pre-existing attitudes and lack of caring. The goal is to get you to go anywhere else and to avoid providing any care if at all possible.Fortunately, I’m currently robust enough to deal with this and to help the person I care for, with difficulty. However, I am extremely concerned for those unable to do this and frankly should I have any further difficulties would see no point in reaching out to this service in a crisis. Unfortunately, I also see no potential improvement in the future, which is extremely disappointing.

  2. Review titled Crisis Team Cause a Crisis!!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Dean - Posted on 15 September 2022

Had a mental health nurse call me back on 13/09/2022 at aprox 16:50 (my mobile ending 706) because I was having a mental health crisis and feeling suicidal! The nurse was awful, uncaring and very patronizing with me. It felt as if she wanted an argument with me and all I wanted was help with my issue. It was very lucky that my sister rang me not long after otherwise god knows what would of happened? Someone seriously needs to be looking into this service because some of the people working in the service are a disgrace to their profession!

  3. Review titled Call handlers and nurses

Rated 1 star out of 5

Call handlers are now at a position in there job to tell you what they to believe your mental illness is when they haven't got a clue about my mental illness. I had one of the call handlers tell me I'm not suicidal when I am. I then had another one tell me about my diagnosis when they don't know what they are talking about either. There is some extremely rude call handlers who sit in that hospital just coming out with the worst comments that they can say. They need to concentrate on picking up a telephone for there job and not thinking all of a sudden they are doctor's. Nurses are the same though they will contact you back eventually then just rush you off the phone within minutes, you can't ever ask them anything about the current mental illness you have and it's diagnosed because they just don't want to listen to what you have to say. They can be the most impossible people to try and talk with because they will not stop interrupting you. They say the stupidest of things that are not helpful when you are suffering with mental illness of any kind. The management of this establishment need to have a complete overhaul because they are not running this place correctly. Things that have been said by people at this crisis team which is actually on my health notes and they just deny it when you ask them about this. They need to stop thinking about themselves all the time and actually start to help the people with mental illness who are asking for help and waiting for help still. You get paid to do a job but what is it you actually do?

  4. Review titled Cumbria Mental Health Team

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Steven - Posted on 04 April 2022

I have been fighting for a while with my GP to get me referred to Cumbria Mental Health Team when a GP finally refers me, I learn from FirstStep that nobody from Cumbria Mental Health Team will be seeing me and they recommend me going to FirstStep instead. This is a total joke, I am wanting to be fully diagnosed with mental health with a proper assessment. My Gp has not seen me, I was diagnosed over the e-consult system where you can not list all your symptoms and how your mental health is affecting your daily life. I have requested for a full mental health assessment, I get referred by Gp to Cumbria Mental Health Team then to learn that they aren’t going to see me. The Government says that mental health will be taken seriously but obviously the NHS is not bothered anymore about people that are suffering.
