  2. Review titled Do not use!

My husband is in a nursing home and just by chance I was with him when a chap from the Outside Clinic was there chatting to a resident. A nurse told me my husband had been seen to. I spoke to the chap who said my husband's glasses/frames had been chosen and they were bifocals and would cost £120. I told the chap my husband wasn't on the list to be seen as we were under Specsavers and he was only seen last October My husband has Progressive Supranuclear Palsy part of which is 'fixed' sight and that previously 3 opticians (and consultants) had told us nothing further could be done for his sight. Plus there is no way the dispensing optician who had apparently seen my husband 2 weeks prior to this could have asked him questions - my husband is unable to communicate, and to even say he had been prescribed bifocals is laughable with his 'fixed sight' The chap said well we can do them as long distance. Nobody was present during either of these visits and when I phoned Outside Clinic was told that relatives are always phoned to confirm it's ok to visit and prescribe. This did not happen and as I have Power of Attorney find it incredible that these 'visits' had taken place and glasses prescribed. This is a con to get vulnerable residents, a lot of whom are confused, to agree to having glasses - my husband being one of them. I would like to know what would have happened if said glasses were delivered to him, presumably the nursing home would have paid and then sent me the invoice.

  3. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have just had a sight test at home as I have very poor mobility. I have attended opticians regularly for most of my life, having had my first pair of specs at 7 years old, so am well equipped to make comparisons. I was very impressed with the professionalism and thoroughness of the service. It really was as good as being in the surgery/practice. I felt very well looked after and will be happy to use the service again.

I can’t praise Outside Clinic highly enough! This is my first time of using them and I’m so pleased with the result! The Optician arrived on time and gave my eyes a thorough examination and recommended which glasses would be best. I ordered two pairs and was told they could take up to 28 days to be delivered. I was expecting them to be posted to me, but an Optician brought them to me a week before the deadline. He checked that my glasses fit properly and that the lenses were correct for my needs. All was well. A big thank you to all the team at Outside Clinic!

  5. Review titled Caution advised for elderly

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have just received a quotation for Bifocal Photochromatic glasses for my 85 Year old mother who is wheel chair dependent and home bound. The frame suggested is a designer frame for 230 Pounds, the lenses a further 335 pounds. A total of 565 Pounds. The lenses are described below. These are ideal for someone who normally wears glasses to read things like: digital screens such as bike computers, GPS's, dashboards and boating or biking instrumentation. Maps, heart rate monitors, watches and mobile phones. Not really something my Mother would need. Really concerned that this can happen.

  7. Review titled Dreadful service

I had used Outside Clinic twice before with no problems. I ordered a new set of hearing aids under the old prescription on March 1st. They still hadn't arrived on April 10th. The initial order wasn't accepted or acted upon by the operative, and I didn't pay until after phoning back on March 7th. For five weeks I kept being told the hearing aids were being moulded but I could not get any further updates. I asked them to let me know when they had been posted so I could ask my brother-in-law to look out for them. That didn't happen until April 11th. This was despite them knowing my brother-in-law was in hospital for over three weeks of that period and could not hear what the medics were saying to him.

  8. Review titled Elderly and vulnerable - caution!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

My 90 year old house-bound mother (who lives alone) had an at-home eye test and was prescribed two pairs of expensive glasses, one being polaroid. She has dementia although appears confident and assured. I think the optician should ask vulnerable people if someone could be present. The fact that my mum's (limited) bank card payment was declined, so he accepted a cheque from an old cheque book should have rung alarm bells. Fortunately Outside Clinic agreed to refund the £360 second unnecessary pair.

  10. Review titled Awful service for me as NHS patient

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 March 2024

Tried for months to get appointment. None available in advance. Unable to provide parts for NHS hearing aids. I’ve been having problems for months. No one wants to know. I’ve phoned and emailed several times. When Hidden Hearing was looking after me under the NHS they were brilliant. I feel they want NHS funding without providing suitable care. I feel they don’t care. Trying to change provider.
