I came in Wednesday afternoon on to A&E don't even get me started about these lot,, then admitted to ward 4 Acute medical. All I can say is the day staff are not helpful at all, I sat all day in my room with no explanation of what was going on with me, even when I asked what was happening they just looked at me and walked out the room! I asked one nurse who had black and red hair if she could help with something and her tone was disgusting! I don't know what happened to nurses/doctors caring for patients! Disgraceful staff and disgraceful ward!!

  2. Review titled Wonderful Doctors and staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Gill Wrigley - Posted on 08 May 2024

Hi I would like to praise the staff who were working in the A and E department last night and say a huge thankyou for taking such great care with my husband. It was a very busy time and there was so much to deal with but the quality of care and support from the doctors and all the staff was second to none. My husband was transferred at 3am to the spinal unit at James Cook following tests completed at A and E and I am so grateful that these were done and resulted him in having the surgery he needed. Please accept these thanks from both of us - you are wonderful!

  3. Review titled Astounding experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Following an appointment at GP I had to attend SDEC for a possible scan. From the minute I arrived we were so impressed and my sister who worked with premature babies until retirement from Exeter was blown away by the services provided here in Durham.I was fortunate to be assessed quickly by a lovely nurse who wanted to give me an MOT.Forgive me if I am unsure of exact job titles but she will know who she is!Bloods sent away and while we waited I was astounded to be offered tea and biscuits. Then an X ray completed quickly and friendly radiographer.Back to waiting room to find my sister had been given a bag containing my lunch! We were speechless.Bloods processed quickly in haemotology who had alerted my GP the previous evening. We forget all the staff working behind the scenes who do such a fantastic job too. Finally visit from doctor and thankfully good news for me but had it not been I know I was in a fabulous hospital. We left yesterday just blown away by the whole experience.Thank you NHS but particular shout out to this amazing hospital and staff.Keep up the good work and keep being you!Karen

  4. Review titled Amazing help

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I went in for a lumpectomy. This was my first surgery and I could not thank the nurses and Drs enough down to the anaesthetist. My experience was the most comfortable and informative. Anything I needed they were there for me. Post surgery recovering as I couldn’t really hold my own arms they gave me water and held it for me. It’s sounds so base level of care but I am honestly so pleased and I couldn’t thank everyone enough. Even the small conversations with the nurses before hand. They made me feel less anxious and scared. Even when I was getting put to sleep they made me feel so safe. When I was back round on the ward I needed the toilet and a nurse came round, asked if I would like a second gown for more coverage and dignity which was super sweet. Walked by my side every step of the way and waited outside and walked me back. When I was then able to get out of bed and sit in the seat before being discharged, the nurse made sure that the blankets were out of my way before getting out and even put my slippers on for me which I appreciated. Even though the anaesthetist was very busy, made sure to come round all the patients in the ward to see how we were doing and how we were feeling which I never thought would happen because everyone is working so hard. I really appreciated it. My aftercare was thoroughly spoken through & they gave me things to take home and leaflets to help me with taking care of myself at home.

  5. Review titled Excellent care.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Colonoscopy carried out 01.02.24. Extremely professional team in Endoscopy Department. From check in to discharge all staff outstanding. I was extremely anxious on arrival but made to feel at very at ease before procedure thanks to relaxed and professional approach of team. I know that I was only one in a line of patients that the procedure was performed on that day yet I felt a very valued and cared for patient. Team were totally focused on me and I recognise that is a very valuable skill to be able to show so much sincere care and interest in each individual patient. I would like to believe entire hospital is as professional and performs as well as the Endoscopy team of the afternoon of 01.03.24. Very special people doing a difficult job dealing with the general public and doing that job so well. My most sincere thanks and respect to each individual member.

  6. Review titled Grateful Patient

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I recently attended UHND for a colonoscopy which required a two night stay on Ward 15. I cannot give enough praise for all members of staff, at all levels, for the care and commitment they gave to all patients. All were diligent in their duties, resourceful, punctual to requests, and most importantly, made me feel secure and safe. Treatment schedules on the ward were adhered to diligently and there was an atmosphere of happiness. Please know that the difficult and stressful circumstances you work under are recognised and very much appreciated.

The treatment I have received during 2 visits to CDU was both professional and caring and I couldn’t thank them enough, the staff are a credit to the NHS and they made me confident in my recovery with the treatment and advice given.

  8. Review titled Treatment brilliant, nourishment dreadful

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Trevor Machin - Posted on 10 April 2024

I was admitted to a and e with what turned out to be sepsis and e coli, I was shipped about to wards 4,5,6, The level of care was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble from the nursing staff at ever level. However I have to say the food that was served to me was shocking, the only meal edible was ceareal with milk, Sandwiches, dinners, salads, soups were simply dreadful, so much so I actually lost 7 pounds in weight in 7 days, jacket potatoes, salads, soups and sandwiches all not fit for human consumption, whoever sanctions the serving of such food needs totally retraining, extras such as salad cream for salads and chipped potatoes were days off being out of date, the taste was putrid and not safe to eat

  9. Review titled Long wait but worth it

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 February 2024

My husband was transferred via ambulance due to chest discomfort, an ECG showed he had likely had an MI. We had to wait in the corridor for several hours before being moved to a room. Staff team were attentive and friendly whilst carrying out their tests. His condition deteriorated after a few hours, and he complained of stomach cramps. The doctor was required and he examined and scanned him, before quickly moving him to resus as he was having another MI. Again staff were attentive and friendly. A decision was made to transfer him via blue lights ambulance to James Cook hospital. I cannot thank the staff enough for their care during our time in the department.

  10. Review titled Impossible to contact

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Daniel McWaters - Posted on 12 February 2024

Had an appointment cancelled for the end of January. Heard nothing about the rescheduled appointment. Phone just rings and rings so how I am meant to get in touch with them? Due a 3 month check up as I'm on biologics - it's coming up to 6 months and zero contact. Been in pain for 2 years now (which they are aware of) and just feel like I've been fobbed off to deal with it. Feels like nobody else is bothered.
