Rated 5 stars out of 5

2nd inpatient visit in 4 months to the Gladstone Ward. Had a positive experience first time, duly reviewed. Once again, have nothing but praise for the clinical and non clinical team who work hard to provide excellent and consistent care. Their dedication is awesome!! they truly live the NHS values, commitment to quality of care, respect and dignity for all patients, I have been so grateful to the team in the Gladstone Ward. All I can offer is biscuits and thank you cards each visit, but they all deserve so much more.

  2. Review titled Website inaccuracy

by Sandav - Posted on 25 November 2022

A good friend is in St Mark's Hospital. We went to visit him yesterday. The link to the hospital on the Central Middlesex webpage shows the hospital to be in Harrow. We went to Harrow, but he was not there, he was in St Mark's at Acton Lane. On enquiry, it seems that the main part of St Mark's is now in Acton, but this is not shown on your website. Apart from having to pay for two expensive car parks, we were only able to spend a very limited amount of time with our friend once we had driven all the way from Harrow. May I please ask for you to clarify the locations of St Mark's Hospitals on your website, so that others do not suffer the same problem as us. It was extremely stressful.

Dear Sandav, I am sorry to hear of the confusion and added stress that you suffered trying to visit your friend. I shall contact the team at St Marks and ask them to look into this for you and ask them to work with the Communications Team to have the website updated. We do have St Marks services running at both sites, but will ask them to make this a bit clearer. Kind Regards Pippa Kashmiry- Patient Experience Lead

Tried to contact Gastrocoloproctology Outpatient department since the 31/10/22 on 02082354051 and no response. Pinn medical centre also communicated with the department and no joy. Due to covid the hospital cancelled 2 my appointments and said they will be in touch. Since November 2020, I have not heard anything. I was diagnosed Coeliac and was supposed to be checked. Telephone number 02082354051 keeps repeating the same message time and time again at anytime of the day, however, Nobody answers

  4. Review titled Doctors continually fail to contact at follow up

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 March 2023

I had surgery at St Marks in September 2022. I was told I would have a 6 week telephone follow up but to contact prior to that with any concerns. I had multiple complications after surgery, I contacted the secretary multiple times. No doctor has ever called me back and I ended up with an emergency admission to my local hospital for 3 days. At each arranged telephone follow up appointment a doctor has failed to call me at all. I have left voicemails with the secretary each time and I simply get posted another appointment out for months down the line. It is almost 6 months and I have still been unable to speak with any doctor at St Marks since my surgery, which didn't go well in itself. Please carefully consider all other options prior to choosing here for your 'care'.

  5. Review titled My mum's experience in hospital

    by Caref86 - Posted on 03 August 2022

I had to bring my elderly mother back to A&E having previously been admitted and then discharged 2 days earlier for the same problem. We arrived and were immediately triaged by the 2 lovely nurses at the door who, on hearing that it was a return visit, immediately called the surgical ward, who confirmed they had asked her to return if things re-occurred. Within 10 minutes she had blood taken and an hour later was being seen by a doctor from the surgical team. She was re-admitted and on both occasions was treated by the ward teams with the utmost care and compassion. We have had many reasons to visit NPH in the last 40 years and this has been the most personalised care we have experienced to date. I know people usually provide feedback when something goes wrong, so I wanted to let you know that our expectations were exceeded in both the surgical auxilliary unit and Frederick Salmon (North)

Dear Caref86 Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback for the A and E, Frederick Salmon North and the SAU teams. I shall make sure that this gets feedback to them. Although I am sorry to hear that your Mum had to return after 2 days, I am glad to hear that she was dealt with in a smooth and timely manner, and that the care she received exceeded the families expectations. I wish your Mum a speedy recovery. Kind Regards Pippa Kashmiry - Patient Experience Team

  6. Review titled Excellent admissions staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Ruth S - Posted on 05 July 2022

Prior to my admission on 29/06, had many phone calls from admissions at St Marks hospital who contacted me about my admission dates/times and then emailed follow up information. Admission staff had the difficult task of having to rebook a couple of times, which frustrating for the patient, the manner and good humour and apologetic way they notified me genuinely made me feel more sorry for them as I know patients are not always the easiest of people to speak to when waiting on surgery. But the admission staff member was so kind and efficient that I couldn't help but be impressed by their calm, professional manner and knew they were doing the best they could with the information they had. I did finally get admitted and wanted to recognise the important work that the admin staff do in hospitals too, they keep the wheels turning for everyone. Great job! A credit to the NHS!

  7. Review titled Excellent Stoma Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Ruth S - Posted on 05 July 2022

Last week I underwent surgery for a stoma bag to be fitted, life changing surgery. However fear was reduced enormously by the highly efficient, professional and caring stoma nurses I came into contact with both prior to and after the surgery. A video consultation with 'A' who explained everything thoroughly beforehand and the types of bags you could have, the support available and then answered with great patience my numerous questions that put me thoroughly at ease, to meeting other nurses on the ward 'S and 'R' who sited the positioning accurately and 'R' who had the task after surgery to teach me about changing my bag, helped dispel the squeamishness I initially felt and made no fuss but calmy explained the best way to manage things I a dignified way. Taking all my fears away. This enabled me to leave hospital sooner as I felt fully able to manage my stoma myself at home. A follow up call on my return home to ensure I had everything I needed was appreciated and ongoing transfer to my local hospital was being dealt with swiftly and efficiently. At all times this team have been wonderful in ensuring what could have been a challenging time has been properly managed and given me the crucial support I needed to move forward in my health care. They are a credit to the NHS!!! Thank you.

  8. Review titled Excellent Pre-Assessment Team - St Marks Hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Ruth S - Posted on 05 July 2022

Prior to surgery and admittance to Gladstone 2 ward, i was emailed by pre-assesment clinic team who were extremely helpful and efficient in ensuring all the correct documentation was received and returned prior to surgery. Thanks to all staff who replied swiftly to my emailed queries. Very efficient and effective team. Coming to Central Middlesex hospital as part of St Marks has been a blessing, where efficient, professional staff work hard for their patients. A credit to the NHS.

  9. Review titled Brilliant Stoma Nurses

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sam Hillier - Posted on 23 June 2022

Frustratingly I've had to resubmit this positive feedback comment and the person I want to praise will not receive this sadly. However, one of the Stoma Nurses at St Marks Hospital (begins with S) was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, patient and answered our many questions. She deserves recognition for her gleaming smile and warm demeanour. Massive thanks for her reassurance towards the couple travelling up from Sussex (far). Please ensure this positive feedback gets back to them.
