I was admitted for day care surgery for a Femoral Hernia at the Christopher Holm Building. I was so impressed by the level of care and kindness I had from my nurses. They were so attentive, friendly and caring. I felt extremely well looked after.

I was referred from Leigh Walk in Centre with a suspected Dvt in my leg. On arrival was made to feel welcome by reception, and shown to my chair, within an hour bloods had been taken, obs and heart and lungs listened to. I saw three different nursing staff who listened to my symptons and were sympathetic and pleasant.I was told what would be happening and back in my chair was offered tea coffee, sandwiches and soup. Good for me because I had to miss breakfast and needed to take my medication. Within another two and a half hours I was given a Scan on my leg, and ten minutes later was speaking to a consultant and a senior nurse I had seen previously ,and was told I didn't have a Dvt, after advice on how to manage my injury I was told I could leave. I cannot praise the professionalism and friendliness of the staff too highly. All in all I was dealt with in just under four hours. The Nhs at its best. We'll done to all staff including the catering ladies at the Sdec

  4. Review titled A very disappointing experience

    by Wigan9864 - Posted on 12 September 2023

I found my visit an absolute joke, no communication, 12 hours in A and E, then into assessment area, designated nurse spent majority of their time sat at a computer screen in-between over 4 hours on their mobile phone. I found this totally useless. Medical team doctor was extremely informative and pleasant, some nursing staff were more concerned in booking next cruise and various drinks packages all in all a very disappointing experience would consider traveling out of town for treatment.

  5. Review titled Cardiology department

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Leslie howcroft - Posted on 26 January 2024

I was admitted to A&E on the 14th of September after collapsing at home due to an irregular heartbeat. I was referred to Sdec and saw a specialist who advised to start taking betablockers and blood thinners and arranged a 24hr heart monitor. I returned the heart monitor on the 4th of October and was advised results would be sent back to my GP within 6-8 weeks. Since then I've been having horrendous side affects from the beta blockers.Dizzyspells and horrific hallucinations which keep me up all night. I visited my GP who advised she could not do anything until the results where back from cardiology. I also have a pain blocking injection in my spine to help me walk and this has now been refused until they have a report back from cardiology leaving me housebound and in agony. I have visited my GP 3 times to request help In getting these results and was told we have to wait to hear back from cardiology. I'm on the waiting list for a cardiology appointment but nobody has rang and it says to chase them after the 2nd of February. I'm utterly disgusted In being left in agonising pain and with horrendous side affects and nobody even contacting me. My quality of life has totally diminished. I visited my GP again yesterday and she said to just stop taking the Beta blockers! How is this good advice it even says on the label not to stop taking them.

I was referred to rapid diagnostic clinic on 27/7 by GP. They called me on the 31/7 and had a phone consultation which resulted in being told I needed an urgent CT scan, I was called on the 3/8 and given appointment for scan on 5/8. My appointment was in the early evening and on entering the department was seen immediately by a lovely kind gentleman who put me at ease, he explained the procedure fully and carried it out quickly. All in all from leaving home, having the scan, waiting for taxi and returning home took 50 mins! Brilliant and now just waiting for results.

  8. Review titled Longest wait

Took an elderly family member to the walk in centre first who advised to go straight to accident and emergency for swollen legs and black outs leading to falls. Most recent fall resulted in severe skin damage and tears in his arm. Arrived at Accident and emergency but we didn't even get chance to explain the issues, just got sent to an alternative part of the hospital. 4 hours later they send us back to Accident and emergency. By this time it's packed. No communication from professionals as to what the treatment plan was. Occupational therapist did an assessment (she was really nice) however, she arranged a home visit for 3pm. Told us this at 2.15pm, family member got discharged at 2.45pm. Had to rearrange the appointment ourselves. From the start they told us there was nothing wrong with BP to be leaving with a prescription for medication for low BP??? Our family member is 86 and from start to finish the whole process took 30 hours. All the time he was sat in Accident and emergency He was offered 2 drinks and 1 sandwich and cold toast. Unfortunately there was lots of people who didn't need to be there causing delays to others who were in greater need. I worry for the future of healthcare in our area.

  9. Review titled Amazing service. Super friendly and supportive staff!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Josh - Posted on 20 June 2023

After being bitten by a cat, it turned into a nasty infection in which my GP advised me to go to hospital. Unfortunately after blood tests I was told I had a very high infection and needed IV antibiotics, and that they needed to keep me in overnight to give me fluids and further antibiotics. Even though the hospital was extremely busy, and the nurses and doctors were clearly understaffed they were still super efficient, and helped me whenever I asked with a smile. I was out of hospital the next afternoon thanks to their great work. I have never had to stay overnight at a hospital before, so I am super happy that such a great hospital is next to me if I ever need it again. Thank you for everything you do.

  10. Review titled Poor care

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Eva Mala - Posted on 08 June 2023

My son struggled about 6 days of high temperature and bellyache. He spent on rainbow award 2 nights, nurses was very kind but the doctor care was very poor. Every day Ive been told, they will do blood test but from some reason nobody did it. Also last day the doctor told us my boy can goes home and if he get worst, get back to hospital and he also refused to do blood test even my boy still didn't feel well. Then only he noticed that my son had high temp the other night and changed his mind. I understand doctors are busy but once my son is in the hospital all what I need is proper medical care.
