  1. Review titled Unbelievable care and compassion

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Our pregnancy story doesn’t have a happy ending. However I can’t say with enough thanks how well I was looked after by the midwives in clinic 23. What was the worst day of my life was made slightly less painful by the 4 wonderful ladies that looked after me during the time we were there. I can’t thank them enough, they made me feel as comfortable as I could and comforted me during a really heartbreaking time. They then put together a box of treasured memories of our baby boy for us to take home which has bought me comfort so far in the couple of days following. Would love to be able to thank them all personally but I’m not sure how to. They do not get enough credit for the amazing work they all do. Thank you so very much from the bottom of mine and Matts hearts.

Wanted to thank Sara ward, Delivery ward and Charles Wolfson ward for their exceptional care and services whilst I was there having my 2nd baby. I left with the best experience and can't thank the staff enough. All staff work so hard and were so polite, approachable and friendly throughout. Honestly thank you to each of you I met along the way, I hope this reaches you all.

  4. Review titled Fantastic care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was booked in for an elective c-section due to baby being breech however I ended up going into labour 2 days before. I went into the hospital in the middle of the night for monitoring and ended up going for an emergency c-section at 2am the following morning. The staff from the moment we called the assessment line to the moment we left to go home with our baby were exceptionally kind, caring and helpful. The midwife who cared for us before and during the section was lovely and really helped us to stay calm and relaxed. Although the section was considered an emergency we were not made to feel rushed or panicked at any stage, all the staff did their absolute best to make sure we were happy and comfortable. We then went on to the recovery ward which even though at this point it was 3am, were treated to coffee and toast before being moved onto Lady Mary Ward. Whilst on the ward we were looked after by a number of midwives but in particular the student midwife who helped me to establish breastfeeding was superb. I just want to say thank you to everyone who made our stay so wonderful.

  6. Review titled Review of maternity service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

It was suggested I was induced. 8 days before my due date, I had a sweep and then went into the Sara Ward the next day to be induced (once there was a bed). We ended up spending 6 days on the Sara Ward and after a couple of days of the usual induction processes and pessaries, I was then waiting 3 more days to go to the delivery unit. Understandably the staff couldn't tell me when I would go. All of the staff on this ward were super friendly but it was clear they were stretched and it was more noticeable on the weekend. There were times I was put on monitoring and no-one had come to take me off 2 hours later. When day and night shift have their handover meeting, it is clear the real lack of staff if you need them then. Our midwife on the delivery unit was fantastic, supportive and managed the whole birth calmly and like a boss on her own. I was then supported by the day shift midwives. I experienced the emergency button being pressed, being rushed into theatre for a c section and then decided I should carry on vaginally which meant I had come off the epidural, then couldn't be put back on after receiving something that numbed my lower half in theatre. For a second time, I was going to go to theatre and therefore there was a couple of times when I wasn't on any pain relief. I was told I was 10cm dilated and then told that I was only 9cm. After the birth, I got moved onto Lady Mary Ward where our son had to have some glucose tests. On the day of discharge, I was told I will be discharged if the midwife can get to me. I received a lot of breastfeeding support whilst on the Lady Mary which was useful. However, there were some staff who almost had a rude/disappointed tone when providing care. For example, on the first morning on this ward, we were essentially told off for not dressing our baby correctly (25 degree heat and we were told he should be in 3 layers and hat). As an incredibly emotional and first time mother, I found this upsetting. I asked if my partner, baby and I could go for a short walk in the hospital and was told that I couldn't take my child as they are an inpatient and was made to feel like I was asking something ludicrous, being told that an alarm would be raised if I was to take my child off the ward. One thing we noticed was a real lack of toilet or washing facilities for men. On the Sara Ward, my partner had to be buzzed in and out when needing the toilet as they are outside the ward. We were cared for by some fantastic staff, especially on the Sara Ward and our midwife on the delivery unit. She even plaited my hair during labour! Some of them came to see us on the delivery unit after we had had the baby which was so lovely. The staff were clearly exceptionally busy, under increased pressure and short staffed though on the Sara Ward, they never failed to be kind, caring and helpful, answering any questions we had. To note also that my birth plan was not really asked for though I brought this up and shared the key points.
